Yeah. I did 40 straight nights a few years ago. Wasn't good for the home life for sure.

First year in Germany I probably work 3-4 months on nights. Schedule is changing here to 3on-2off-2on-3off after next weekend, still 12s.

I haven't had anyone say that. I usually get "is that yours?" followed by the obligatory "is it an automatic?". I honestly don't get why they ask that question. If I were a guy they would never ask.
