The Legacy TMS Lady
You don't hear this one on the radio, but here is his song about Willie

Ever seen the movie "Pure Country" with George Straight? That sums up what I'm trying to get at very well. You can fool the audience with smoke machines, fireworks, dancers, back up singers, etc. but at the end of the day they don't know who they saw, they just enjoyed the "show". That's what country has become, just a show to impress the "fans". Nothing of substance really there, just a great production.
And don't you compare this crap that is being put out today with Southern Rock. Ronnie Van Zant and Duane Allman (God bless their souls) would roll over in their graves to hear that.
This is Southern Rock..

Coming from someone who was raised around music, Southern Rock especially (Allman Brothers, Little Feat, etc), I have a hard time listening to alot of country myself. I am not a huge fan of the pure country like Waylon Jennings, Hank Sr. and the like, not sure why I just dont. I do enjoy some of the modern "country" but I know its far from its origional roots, but mainly I listen to the more up-tempo stuff. Im a huge fan of people like Zac Brown Band, that just showcases pure raw talent. Now give me Dave Matthews Band and stuff like that, and I am set for days.

You don't have to get all pissy about it, don't say that you aren't because it screams through in your post. You might not recognize it because you are young, but what most "country" stations play today is pop music. It's one step away from lady gaga. Its manufactured bullsheet from the record companies. They know what makes money, and they are catering to that audience. The Dixie Chicks portrayed themselves as country, but we all know that they are your typical Hollywood socialists. That was made obvious by themselves.
Wouldn't you be pissy of someone was putting down something you liked? I'm sorry but that's only natural for me. I only ask, because I would genuinely like to know. It may be "pop music" to some, but at least it has some content. Almost all the songs in top 40 today are about sex, drugs, and "being on the dancefloor". Nothing I can relate to or even want to listen to. At least modern country music has some content to it. Everyone I know who listens to it says they like it because they can relate to it. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about? Songs about life? This quote is from the inside of Brad Paisley's new album:
"I am proud to be in country music. Even though in some circles it is not given the respect it deserves as an art form, I am constantly reminded of its strengths. See, country music is unique. It is brave. It is not afraid to deal head-on with subjects like disease, death, religion, drinking, family, or anything else that qualifies as life. It isn't above its fans. It is about them..." -Brad Paisley
That to me is pretty much what defines country music. I think it always has been. But things change and life changes and so does country music. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. That's for you to decide. Yes, it is a business. How else are any of these people going to continue making music if they can't support themselves? If they are lucky enough to make a career out of doing what they love, there is nothing wrong with that. I do understand that the fat man behind the desk controls what is heard on the radio, and that's a shame. There's lots of good music out there that never gets heard because it never gets played out the radio. The thing is the radio isn't the only medium to find new music nowadays. I know there's more to it than that, but don't want to get into it right now.
As for the Dixie Chicks, they never wanted to be country anyways.

Yes, I've seen the movie. I go to concerts cause I want to see my favorite artists sing their songs live and feel that connection with them that you only can at a concert. Not only to see a great show or performance. Compared to what you see with performers like lady gaga, etc., where all it is is who can be the bigger nut job, country is a lot more tamed down and focuses much more on the music. And that is one of the reasons I like it.
Continued from above.
Country radio is the largest medium on the airwaves today, therefore it offers the greatest return on investment.
Look at the people who have suddenly turned "country". Arron Lewis from Staind, Darius Rucker, Kid Rock (although I think he was always a redneck, he, like the others went where the money was when he started)
I can't stand Kid Rock, and all of Darius Rucker's song sound exactly the same.
This is not country. If you want to "rap" be a rapper.

I've HATED this song since the first time I heard it. I've been complaining for months about how rap and country music should under no circumstances be mixed.

Sorry boys, I love you guys, but y'all definition of music is not what mine is.
Rock on Skydog. You are sorely missed brother.

Don't get me wrong, Gretchen, Jamey, etc are making good country music. But you guys need to study where the roots of it came from.
Junior Kimbrough is a fine example. You've probably heard it in the latest Porsche commercials....

Sorry boys, I think the world of you guys, but we have differing opinions on things. I just hope that y'all will open your minds and do some studying on the roots of what you praise so highly.
This is one of the things about music in general that I love. There is always new stuff to be discovered. If it were all the same, that would not be the case at all.

A Man Just Needs Some....
For the record. I don't like country. But I respect the old artists and some of the new ones have talent but sing rubbish. Listen to blues and be done with it. There's a blues artist out there for everyone. Nathan definitely needs some blues in his life.

This will always be one of my favorite songs. Went to see him in concert on Sept 11th last year and I have to say I had goosebumps when he did this one.

I could see Nathan getting down with some Buddy Guy, but may have to go a bit more modern with say Robert Randolph.

I see that with Cream vs Derek & the Dominos. D&D - particularly on the "In Concert" (pic has 4 band members, greenage behind) - not "Live at Filmore" - was some of EC's best lead work I think. Huge difference.
D&D IC remains my all time favorite songs and performance - when he was hangin' with Duane. "Why Does Love Got to be So Sad" and when Blues Power transitions into "Have You Ever Loved a Woman".... tasty tasty
Yet EC gets a ton of credit for Cream and little for D&D (besides Layla & Let it Rain for the most part).
He was definitely playin' hot with Cream, but it turned sweeter with D&D. More soul. More feel.
When he was hangin' with Duane (and others) he must have been to Aunt Fanny's Cabin and sung with the sisters a few times... Southern soul turned the Limey a bit sweeter. Or maybe it was the sweet tea. lol
IMO
