Full Suspension Upgrade/Modification Research

2014 5.0 Premium, Sterling Gray
MT/Track Pack/Brembo/3.73
Borla axle backs

For my first mods, I want to go with suspension. I want to get the stance down right. However, I prefer function over form. Meaning I require performance. I would like a balance or easy adjustability for street, strip and road course.

I'm on several groups and forums. I've read some information about springs (strut/shock or coilover), pan hard bar, camber/caster plates, UCA, LCA, relocation brackets, etc...

I'm requesting opinions. I'm torn between Maximum Motorsports "Grip in a Box" complete package vs. piecing together an assortment of different manufacturer parts.

Is this a pipe dream or a possibility??
Please tell me your opinions on any parts or packages with which you have knowledge or experience.

The grip in a box might be very close to what you want and then you could finish it off with a solid UCA/mount and LCA relo brackets, probably BMR or Steeda since you can adjust the LCA angle for each application. I would think the Koni's would be best since you can adjust them also for each application.

Do you have a link to the MM kit your referring to?

I can tell you one thing.. whatever you do make sure the strut mount replacement you get specifically fits whatever struts you buy. fyi gt500 strut mount will not fit struts specific to 2011+ vehicles. learned that the hard way lol

I can't say from experience but looking at it I would say it is probably competitively priced if you go with the adjustable one, but the shocks I believe are Tokico D specs which have been said to be lesser than the Koni's. The springs are also the P springs I believe which are a 1 inch drop and the MM kit is 2 inches with different rates.

We did this video a couple years ago ... and I think it may be the package you are looking for:

You can shoot me an email at tim@steeda.com if you would like me to put a package together for you.

Best Regards,

TJ

IMO, there's no question that it is beneficial to get a 'kit' that has all components tuned to work together. Especially if you will track the car, and you want to retain a decent ride on the street. The Steeda video demonstrates that, and looks very good. I have the Eibach Pro-System-Plus-Kit (springs, dampers, sway bars). The package runs about $1k. I track my car about 4 times per year, the difference is amazing. Rides about 10% harsher on the street. I added a BMR adjustable PHB (only because it was 1/2 price). I did not require front strut mounts. But I did need an alignment, with Eibach camber bolts. Check out this video, and good luck with your install!

This isn't always the case. You'll notice many race teams to include Time attack guys that will run a suspension system from multiple companies. Nothing wrong with that, that's why we're here to help guide some of you into the right suspension system while saving you money at the same time.
We've found that although the Eibach springs are decent they're dampers lack the ability to fully support them, which is pretty disappointing...... especially when pushed hard.
Although we don't sell Steeda we really like their springs when combined with Koni yellows or non-adj Bilsteins.
It all depends on what your plans are and your budget, with those factors we can alter a nice package for ya.

+1, packages are awesome when they are developed to work together, however when they don't you might as well cobble something together instead that will actually work.

Brandon302 - have to agree with you on this point. We sell a ton of the Steeda kits, and the Steeda components all around - top notch stuff. The beauty with Steeda, for example, is that they do truly engineer their parts to complement each other nicely that way, if you do upgrade your suspension in stages as budget allows you're getting components that work well together and are made well.

After a good bit of discussion here's what I've narrowed down for a package. I'd appreciate any and all opinions....

-Hotchkis OR Steeda UltraLites Sprimgs
-BMR PHB, adjustable
-Ground Control Street OR Steeda Caster/Camber plates
-Koni yellows strut and shock kit, adjustable
-BMR LCA OR Steeda and relocation brackets
-BMR UCA and mount

If you are looking for something that is the end all be all UCA I would wait a little and see when BMR's new spherical one is coming out. Otherwise that all looks good. I haven't heard as much about the Hotchkis springs but I have heard that the Steeda sports pair well with the Yellow's and Maximum's kit with the 2 inch springs also pair well so I would assume the Ultralites would work. You might want to ask Steeda what their rates are, if they will tell you, and then compare them to Maximum and see if they are any different or better suited to your needs.
