Track Key - Stalling when cold?

Has anyone had issues with their Boss stalling when cruising to a stop before the engine warms up?

I've had it happen twice since getting TK installed. I will depress the clutch, approach a stop sign, and the engine will stall completely. Both times were during ~40 degree mornings before the engine had reached operating temperatures.

No stalling here - and we've had cool morning for a few weeks now.

I use the red key exclusively in my DD and I've got a little over 1000 miles on TK now with only one issue - the fuel guage needle sweeps to the left too quickly.

Nothing notable here. Drove in this morning in 35 degrees, worked like a champ.

No track key on mine and I've had that happen 5 times now. Weather has not been the issue it has done it at temps between 50-80 deg. Stalls as I am coming to a stop, starts right up. Strange.

Negative, been cold out here lately and I drive the car with the TK occasionally. No issues.

Hey guys,

Please make an appointment with your Ford dealers for diagnosis as soon as possible. I’d like to escalate this for you. Please, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, and contact info so I can help.

Deysha

Engine stall just happened to me yesterday while using the TK. It was about 50 degrees, engine running for about 10 minutes while driving through the downtown Dallas. I was entering the highway on ramp and slowed to about 10 miles/hr due to traffic. I was in 3rd gear (easier to manage in stop and go traffic than 2nd w/TK). I went to downshift to 2nd and couldn't. I was like "what the hell" and realized the car had stalled. It started right back up. However, after driving on the highway for 30 minutes I realized the 'Trackey engine enabled' message didn't display. Exited highway and came to a stop light. The idle had not engaged. I then restarted the car with the regular key and drove for about 5 minutes and swapped with TK. The trackey engine message displayed after 2 minutes and everything was back to normal. Stalling at low speeds is one thing, but REDKEY mentioned stalling while going around a curve. Stalling at 75 MPH would be a tad problematic. I am going to take to the dealership, but my guess is that they won't know much about the issue at this point and will perform standard diagnostics and tell me it's all good.

Had my non-Track Key equipped Boss out for a 2 hour drive in low 30F temperature weather and the car performed flawlessly. The Black key works just fine. And I do very much appreciate the capabilities Ford gave us in this car.

Sorry to hear TK equipped vehicles being operated on the street (not the track) are experiencing stalling difficulties. Perhaps the optional software code was written with the assumption that during cold weather, these vehicles would not be used under “track conditions” and temperature compensations were omitted. Just a thought.

Deysha, I have seen your offer to us owners to "escalate" our issues. This is very much appreciated.
Could you explain what this means? Escalate from what to what? And if the issue is not escalated via your help, what remediation effort should one expect at the dealer? Thanks.

Given the posts on this thread, I would say some of the Trackey equiped cars are having issues. Sounds like there may be a nonspecific key issue with what Brawlin' Boss posted.

Agreed Kevin, you are correct.

Perhaps he should call Ford Racing and see what they say is the cause. Hope this does not effect a greater population of owners. But this is the first cold weather season for our cars with this new release and possibly some cold weather calibration issue was omitted or judged to be inconsequential to the original race track use intent.

Hey P0 Corsa,

Your VIN helps me look for recalls, Customer Satisfaction Programs, and your vehicle specifications, as well as verify warranty coverage, if any. It also helps me locate your record in our systems and document and/or escalate concerns as needed. Once escalated, the Customer Service Manager assigned to your case will work with you and your dealer to address your concerns.

FWIW, I have driven my Boss exclusively with the track key since it was installed November 4th. No stalling issues before or since. (except when the husband is driving and has trouble with the clutch - LOL)

Deysha,

Thank you for the quick response. I'll forward you the information after the holidays. I'm not particularly concerned with it and I'll address it when I get some free time in January.
