OBDII Wire-less adapters

Is anyone using a wireless OBDII adapter? I have seen the wifi and Bluetooth ones for the iPhone and Droid phones. As we know, the Boss is limited on gauges....

Are you using one? If so which one and a product review please!! I am looking to purchase one and want to get value for my money so your reviews are appreciated!!

I'm not using one yet but you can but a BT on eBay for around $20. I think most of the adapters work the same it's what your software does with the info that's important.

So far I have read great reviews about Torque for the Android system phones. i was also informed that KiWi PLX is the best but it's also around $89 - $100. My main question is do they all basically pass the same info or are some more sophisticated than others and justify the price difference?

I have Harrys Lap Timer and will use the BT adaptor to capture the telemetry on video using my iP4.

i have one of the sct wireless tuners that has the bluetooth dongle and picks up obdII stuff. honestly its worthless, im not sure if its just because of what the SCT can do or what but there are only three things that it pulls up and they are not helpful. Harrys laptimer is great, i used it at my first track day. that said dont even think about trying to record a 20 min session using it. it locked up the iphone for an hour trying to render all the video lol. i ended up rebooting the phone and lost all the video.

On the laptimer homepage compatibility link I only see a couple of Wifi adaptors supported for iPhone – no Bluetooth adaptors. Since Bluetooth adaptors seem to be less expensive than the wifi I am very interested to see results of connecting laptimer to OBDII via Bluetooth. Please post results !
Also, I am interested in getting an aeroforce gauge that displays OBDII information. Is there any way to use both the laptimer OBDII interface AND the aeroforce OBDII interface simultaneously?
Thanks.

I didn't realize BT didn't work with Harrys. I also have the same question about using both at the same time.

I don't think that you could use any two of these at the same time as they both plug into the OBDII port.

Sorry if I'm getting a little off topic. But, here's a partial answer to using the aeroforce plus another OBDII device -- from areoforce FAQ:

"Q7. Can I use the gauge at the same time as other scan devices or equipment plugged
into the OBD2 port?
A7. Probably not as the OBD2 port is designed for only one device. You can try this, it won’t hurt anything, and it is possible that some devices are compatible depending on how they are accessing data. Most devices are not compatible however and one or both may hang up and not display data."

So -- it MIGHT be possible. But, how would one physically plug both devices into the OBDII port?

Are you using the telemetry overlay on video using Harry's Lap Timer?

Good thing I didn't buy a BT adapter as it's not supported by Harry's. From Harry's forum:

"
Although the PCX KiwiWifi (only supported OBD sensor currently) uses Wifi and your Qstarz uses Bluetooth, there seem to be some interferences between the two. One of my beta users reported, that fixes sometimes did not come in continuously when using both at the same time. As BTStack GPS passes on the original timestamp, this will not have an impact on timing accuracy but only results in some poor online display effects.

- Harry

P.S. Please note that the PCX Kiwi Bluetooth does not work with the iPhone! You need the Wifi version or wait for future options."

And

"The only BT connector announced to be certified by Apple is the Griffin Cartrip http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/cartrip. I will try to support it as soon as it is available. Any pointer for other devices welcome.

- Harry"

CarTrip is dead. Scroll down the link below and read the comments towards the bottom. I wonder if Harry will find another adapter that he will support?

Thanks Kendall and I hope you have a productive testing session at MMP.

I'm running AeroForce dual Interceptor gauges off the OBDII port on my 2005 Mustang GT. Just bought a ELM327 cheap bluetooth device ($18) and an OBDII Y cable ($16) off Amazon. Hooked it all up, gauges still worked, and the Torque Android app connected with the ELM327 device.

But... the Torque app reported that it was unable to talk to the ECM over the J1850 protocol. I went back to read the notes in the Google Play store for the Torque app, and followed the link to their site. It said "I would recommend avoiding this adapter if you intend to use it on a Ford vehicle with the J1850-PWM protocol."

I googled "ODBII bluetooth Ford Mustang" and found a reviewer on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ELM327-Bluetoo...ews/B0051CAE1C) that said it worked on his 2005 Mustang, so I ordered it ($30). We'll see...

I'm keeping the first one I ordered. I plugged it in to my 2010 F150 SCrew and it worked fine!

I can guarantee that the OBDKey BT adapter will communicate; however it's $120ish.
