What viscosity do you plan on running in your Boss? After reading Bob's info I was thinking about using 0W-40 or 0W-30. I don't "plan" on tracking my car the first few years anyway. I'm definitely going to need to add an oil pressure and oil temp gauge though.

WOW!
I hope my crank, rods, valves, valve springs, harmonic damper and bolts are not 100% aluminum.....
At $7.78 for Mobile 1 at thelubricantstore (link above) vs $9.99 for the recommended Motorcraft oil, is $2.21 (+28%) more for the Ford oil "really" that detrimental to one's purchase decision?
Uh, and I do not work for Ford, any oil company trying to generate sales or the below linked company..... FYI only.

Any one know where you can "drive up" and purchase 5w 50 oil in the Midwest? ( MI, IN, OH, WI, IL) I did not see it at Summit or Jegs

I got this from the myford website. Boss 302 Supplement. Pretty good info in there.
Use Motorcraft SAE 5W-50 full synthetic or an equivalent SAE 5W-50 full synthetic oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C931-B. Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that is not covered by Ford warranty. Change your engine oil and filter according to the appropriate schedule listed in the scheduled maintenance information.

I saw Advance Auto Parts had a Castrol 5w-50 the other day. That's the only one I saw at the time. I haven't personally checked in any other auto parts stores yet for the oil though. So start with Advance Auto Parts if you have one close.

Even so, we'll see how the oil analysis comes back with both Redline and Mobil, under track use. We'll separate the pretenders from the contenders...

This is Deysha with Ford Customer Service. As others have mentioned, you are correct about the type of oil the Boss LS uses. It is 5w-50 synthetic and the capacity is 8.5 quarts. This info will be available in your owner manual.

first oil change tested
Has anyone used the Blackstone Oil testing service? I sent in my first oil change at 1100 miles after my first track session to get a base line and try to get some insight on my break-in process. I have a Valve ticking sound when the engine is cold between 2300 and 3300 RPM. It seems to lessen or go away 5 to 10 minutes after the eng temp guage says operating temp. Anyone hearing this?
I will be interested to get the results from my second oil change.
