Interesting read on max perf tires for the hardcore track guys

I never considered BFG a premium performance tire, but was pleasantly surprised with the set of used BFG all season M+S 18's I picked up to replace the wife's worn out PZero Neros. Pix later...

Treadwear rating 400, so with A ratings for Traction and Temp, I got a slammin' deal for 250 for the entire set. Wife is most pleased...

BFG's parent company is Michelin, they get plenty of trickledown tech (albeit once Michelin has amortized the costs) Although BFGoodrich's tend to place a premium on handling and response over ride comfort and longevity.

I am not exactly sold on Pirelli though. I have no experience with Falken, Nitto, Toyo or Hankook.
Thanks! I thought those meats you posted were great. I just can't believe how much these high performance tires cost, holy cow. Does everyone who owns a new Shelby blink at all on the replacement costs for the Goodyear F2's? Ouch.
This is always the debate when you've only got one set of wheels/tires to do everything. The right way to do this is to have a separate set of wheels and tires for the track, then you can get some more budget-oriented tires for the street.
Yes, the OEM tires are very expensive. For those of you that are replacing directly with the stock rubber, you should look on ebay to see if anyone is getting rid of take-off wheel and tire packages. You can strip the rubber off and sell the wheels.

Btw, what type/brand of tires was that you posted? Were they a test tread or something you can buy? My buddy who races thought they looked pretty strange.
Agreed. I just get worried about the horror stories I hear about these shops that damage our nice wheels when mounting tires. My wife's stock 18's have some ugly chips in them from the last unmount/remount. Ugh.

Nitto is owned by Toyo Tires. Regardless, the NT01 is the best DOT track tire for the money, IMO.
Edit: Not sure how long they would last on the street, but some people do run them like that. I would not advise that as it is like lighting cash on fire.

BFG used to sell a 285/40R18 in a KDW but thats gone, Michelin only sells an all-season tire, Bridgestone sells a runflat, Nitto a drag tire, Continental sells a summer tire as does Pirelli and Yokohoma.
Michelin does have a 255/35R20 and 295/30R20 in a Pilot Super Sport though and through the rack, a set with road hazard and shipping will set you back 1600.00 bucks which IMO isn't that bad for a set of 4 tires since I paid close to 1100.00 for my last set of KDWs.
20 inch rims obviously inflat that price but at least you get access to a broader range of tires and unlike the factory 285/35R19s or 285/30R20s, a 295/30R20 is 27" tall (the 285/35 and 185/30 are 26.8")
