Help! What would you do? Dealer has no allocation
Thanks OAC for writing that out. That was my understanding of the lottery letter that went out last year. My .02 is that at some stage in the year I'll get my car once some of the "new" wears off. If not, then it was not meant to happen and I'll wait for a 2013. Again, I just do not see a huge market for a pretty stripped out 43k Mustang in this economy, and it does not hurt me to wait, even if I do not like it.
My dad, who was a Ford dealer for years, used to tell me "never buy a car the first year, let some of the bugs get worked out....."

I just got off the phone with a Dealer, who has a 1st Quarter BOSS 302 for MSRP, I told him I would pass info to you, if you don't want it, let me know ASAP, so I can post info for others who might want to get in on a BOSS.

Didn't see anywhere, unless I missed it, that anyone said a dealer "lost" his allocation.
The allocation procedure for the Bosses was basically this:
60% of manufactured Bosses are guaranteed to the top dealers that account for 60% of retail Mustang sales for the past 2 years. What this means is that actually, around only 30% of the dealers out there get a guaranteed Boss allocation and some of those will get two or maybe three.
The remaining 40% of the Bosses are allocated by lottery. Which means for the remaining dealers without a guaranteed allocation, maybe only one in three will get one.
So, the first group, the top 60%, already knew they were getting Boss allocation.
The other group, 70% of the dealers, had a 1 in 3 chance of getting one; but I'll lay money that many of those dealers took deposits or had waiting lists in case they got one ...
THAT's probably what happened to the OP ... his dealership was banking on getting one on the lottery and lost out ...
PS: These aren't exact numbers, by the way. But they were given to make the point of how the Boss allocation works.

Think your pretty accurate regarding how the allocation process went. My point is that all the dealers regardless of how they got an allocation(s) knew it sometime in November.
Im intereted. please let me know if he's not. I have one at msrp but not sure if my dealer is playing games. they have 2 allocations but wont give me the quarter build for mine. Keeps saying he doesnt know.
Same thing happened with my local dealer here. I had a 3rd quarter car lined up in the next town over cause the local dealer said he wasnt getting one at first..so I moved on. Then 2 weeks ago the local dealer e-mailed me saying that he was actually getting a 2nd quarter Boss. 2nd quarter being exactly what I wanted.
The dealer was told this to him by his ford rep... They did the 1st quarter lottery allocations first, during which the dealer did not receive an allocation. The rep misunderstood and told the dealer that they were not getting a car. Then when they did the lottery for the rest of the quarters my dealer did get one allocation for the 2nd quarter.
It really seems as if his ford rep isn't totally in the know on how the process works if the above story is actually what happened. That is information you would think would be known when they started doing the lottery process. Anyways, I'm going in today to get my deposit check back from the dealer for the 3rd quarter car, then going and putting in the order for the 2nd quarter car. So other than my back being all jacked up cause of all this snow, today should be a good day

That sucks man. Best thing you can do is to go to another dealer. I think your current one will understand, since they simply aren't able to provide what you want.
Your dealer might not be playing games. My dealer didn't know my build quarter until the car was serialized up in the big computer. It seems to be a very frustrating process for dealers, zone reps and customers.

He seems like a straight shooter. I'm just anxious to get my new pony, like every1 else I'm sure! I'm the kind of guy if you tell me 6 months, I'll be fine, but in this situation, I'm left hanging, it's killing me!
I worked 14 hours today, just got home.
I'm overwhelmed by the help provided by members here. Thanks to all for the PMs and posts. My job tomorrow is try to make some calls to these dealers and see what I can do.
Nothing is locked in stone yet, so in case anybody knows of any thing else available, please PM me. I will be sure to keep everybody posted by updating this thread with progress.

Again, I want to thank everybody for their help and suggestions.
I was able to find a Q1 build at the right price with help of forum members. A little further away from home, but it will be well worth it.
They even had ordered it exactly the way that I wanted to!
