Help! What would you do? Dealer has no allocation

I ordered a Boss 302 in late November through a dealership that my father works for. I've purchased several cars from them in the past, my dad has worked there for over twenty years and they've been really good to us. Before I ordered the Boss, I even talked to the owner and one of the new product specialists that they have there and we agreed upon MSRP.

Today my Dad called me and told me that the dealership recently found out they have no Boss allocations. Even though my order is in the system, it will never be built because there is no allocation for it. They are attempting to try to coordinate with other dealers who have unspoken for allocation and make a dealer trade with them.

What would you do? I'm pretty specific on what I want- CO with black stripes, Recaro and Torsen and I don't want to pay more than MSRP. Does anybody know of any dealers with available allocation? Especially ones that are still able to change order options and only charge MSRP? I don't care about where the dealer is geographically located, I'll do whatever it takes to make it work.

Any other suggestions? I'm not really interested in an SVT at the moment. Though the GT is really refined and a great car, I'm not sure I'd be happy with it after this disappointment. I would potentially consider an LS as well, if one of those was found.

I appreciate any input or suggestions.

The worst thing you can do with your money when looking to purchase a car like this is settle on something you don't want. If you're not interested in a GT or SVT, definitely don't spend the money on one.

Unfortunately I can't really help you any further than that. I hope you can get something worked out!

Yeah, that's definitely solid advice. I don't plan on settling. Thanks, I'm hoping somebody here either works at a dealership or knows that the dealership they are purchasing from still has allocation.

Looks like he has a CO/Black coming in March. He doesn't say if they are asking for ADM on their regular Bosses.

Start making some phone calls and look for larger dealers, maybe someone like Galpin Ford could work something out. The only other thing is maybe some small dealer in the country who would have a hard time selling a BOSS has and allocation

I know of a dealer on the east coast that may be able to help you.

Forget those idiots. They want $5K ADM on a Boss, ask me how I know.

These are going to get harder and harder to find. I think any Boss is going to be hard to find at MSRP as soon as cars and reviews start showing up. Get your deals locked in NOW!

If your dealer has to do a dealer trade then it's unlikely you'll get it at MSRP; dealers will want to be paid for the extra effort. Your best bet is to search for a dealer with an allocation and deal directly with them. Better get on it though, as others have said you're already late to the party on this one ...

I don't know if you spoke with 5 DOT 0 or not. If you did, I had given him contact info for a dealer in Northern Illinois. If you have already gotten that info from him I don't want to be doubling that up. If you have not and would like it. Let me know and I can shoot you that info.

No Allocation because the dealer was offered a better price by some one else. My hunch anyway.

If you don't mind getting one in S FLA I know a MSRP Boss you can order like you want. I think it is 3rd quarter. Just let me know and I will PM all the details you need.

Working on it now. Northern Illinois would be great.

Perhaps. However, it would make for an awkward situation when 'my' car showed up and somebody else took delivery. My father would be bound to see it as it came off the trailer.

I trust the people I was working with. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think it was a honest mistake, made by people who weren't aware of the Share of Nation allocation system.

My thoughts also. Have read alot of stuff on websites regarding the Boss but this is the first I have heard a dealer "lost" his allocation.

I'm basically in the same boat. Local dealership, have some good friends that work there, and have my car on order. Waiting to see if we can get it built or not. My gut tells me to hang on, in that in this economy there is only going to be so much of a market for 43k stripped mustangs. If it doesn't happen this year, then next year I'll get a hockey stripe.

Very likely.

Didn't see anywhere, unless I missed it, that anyone said a dealer "lost" his allocation.

The allocation procedure for the Bosses was basically this:

60% of manufactured Bosses are guaranteed to the top dealers that account for 60% of retail Mustang sales for the past 2 years. What this means is that actually, around only 30% of the dealers out there get a guaranteed Boss allocation and some of those will get two or maybe three.

The remaining 40% of the Bosses are allocated by lottery. Which means for the remaining dealers without a guaranteed allocation, maybe only one in three will get one.

So, the first group, the top 60%, already knew they were getting Boss allocation.

The other group, 70% of the dealers, had a 1 in 3 chance of getting one; but I'll lay money that many of those dealers took deposits or had waiting lists in case they got one ...

THAT's probably what happened to the OP ... his dealership was banking on getting one on the lottery and lost out ...

PS: These aren't exact numbers, by the way. But they were given to make the point of how the Boss allocation works.
