Off topic but you can learn a lot about by spending time in other places. I spent 8 years more or less in Costa Rica. Everyone knows it as such a beautiful "green" country. It may seem that way if you visit as a tourist. Yet much of the towns and cities have no sewers or old systems that are very over loaded. The waste flows directly into the rivers and ocean. You think people in these countries take used oil to a collection center, well there are a small few but most just dump it on the ground or in the street.
Recycle? plastic, paper, no such thing. Lucky they have a 50 old garbage truck collecting some trash once a month. The big plastic garbage patch in the Pacific our fault alone?? - think again, they just throw trash on the ground and street (even if there are no street sweepers) when it rains right out to the ocean! . Cars are very old and in very bad states of disrepair, you can hardly see behind some of them and more then 60 percent are diesel. This is because the tax is so high on cars, up to 85% when buying new, only the rich and currupt politicians can afford them. What is sad is that while they are no where as green as the US they are better then most countires around the world.
You can hardly stand next to a two lane road in Latin America without choking, yet here I can stand next to a 10 lane highway here and breath pretty well.
Why did I write this?, because if you take it all into account, person for person, we here in the US and Canada pollute much less then most other countries. Yes, we are bigger and have more people but don't drink the kool-aid. If other countries followed the least restrictive state here, the world would be a much cleaner place. California takes things to such an extreme, sometimes it is not always for good.

I didn't know this was a state debate. Everyone and there mother wants to live here and there are too many people taking a penny and not leaving a penny. You can't compare California to any other state, it would be like comparing Walmart to jenny's lemonade stand.

Texas on the other hand gained 4 House seats and is statistically the fastest growing state in the nation. So really, Texas leads the way now, by your logic.
