Officially the car picked up 33 hp and 32 lb/ft over a nice wide area. Dyno curves should be available shortly. Whats really cool is how the powerband compares to a GT with the same mods...the Boss picks up where the GT starts to lose the power and the Boss makes and holds a nice power/tq curve all the way to 7800!!

Fred is going to overlay the Boss with a GT and you will be able to see how much MORE power the Boss makes after 7000 RPM.

Headers are going to make a HUGE difference up top after 7000...our guess is over 25 addl rwhp!

399 to be exact...can't wait to put some miles on the car-it already feels more powerful since they did the work!! It must take a while for these motors to break in...

What's been done to it? Tune only? I'm confused, I just read in 5.0 magazine that some 5.0 dynod 433 on a mustang dyno with only an off-road h-pipe, cai, axle back and a tune. Are the 302's overrated or r the 5.0's underrated? I realize its not apples to apples but still seems to be on a paradigm.

Ported heads, lighter valvetrain, larger exhaust valve, intake that GT people are dying to install = no more power? Does that make any sense to you? Of course it doesn't.

Oh, and if you look at how wide the peak area is on the HP curve, you might get the feeling the engineers used the variable camshaft timing to do this on purpose so that the car will not have peaky power ON THE TRACK where the car belongs. Those who only understand peak power numbers and don't understand what variable twin camshaft timing brings to the table may be missing the boat on this one.

2nd edit. Track numbers don't lie. 11.7 @ 117 MPH in a 3800 lb. completely stock Boss = 414 RWHP.

what are the typical gains from a standard GT with intake, o/r X, axleback and tune?

I was expecting way more HP than that to the wheels. I know everyone says they are a tuning tool, but am I the only one who was shocked to see 399rwhp?

The track numbers is one of the reasons I am a little at odds with these numbers. An 11.7 immediately proved the 416 to the wheels we were first given. but these new numbers are just plain off. I mean making us wait 2 weeks for this crap, c'mon. Breaking in a race prepped motor like the Hi-Po 302 is not going to make much. Those motors were not built to be tight, they are blueprinted to loose tolerances expecting to get tracked immediately. Waiting for them to make more peak power is useless. They only power inhibitor is in the programming which that gets eliminated the moment it gets tuned.

Inside Line uses a Dynojet...inherently higher numbers than a Mustang Dyno-Mustang dyno is more accurate in my opinion as it's a load bearing dyno

Its closer to 430 rwhp on a Dynojet iirc

The point of the Boss motor was to make more power while in a higher rpm band more suited to track driving and in this they surely succeded!

I agree about break in. There's not going to be much, if any, gain in HP after the first 100 miles.

I don't see you trying to do this...next time I won't share my experiences with the forum. I thought the idea is to share experiences so we all can learn and benefit!!

So thanks for your contribution
