Warped Rotors

Tracked a '06 Mustang for 5 years and had Brembos with ducts, cracked a rotor, but never warped one........

Only 4 1/2 days on Brembo blanks; 2 days at Sebring / 2 days at Daytona and 1/2 at Sebring and warped.........swapped for new rotors at the track so that was the problem.

Did one entire lap (3.7 miles) cool down with very little braking and rolled the car in the paddock like I always do.

The only change is the World Challenge front splitter, but shouldn't that have helped force additional air into the ducts?

On both sides the air has to make a slight bend; one to go around the washer bottle and the other side I forget why.

On the Boss 302R/S Ford Racing uses a different duct.

Any ideas?

Thinking I should have kept the rotors to look for uneven bake materail build up?

Is the Ford Racing duct available to the public?

Yes the 302S/R front brake ducts are available to purchase. They are 4in and the ones that come on the LS are 3 in.

Make sure you put a level on the front splitter. If you have it pointed up it will block air and make the car handle poorly.....

I removed the fog light mounts with my Dremel and added a 1/4" spacer to my washer bottle to move it out a bit. My driver side has no bend and the passenger side has a slight bend. I may remove my washer bottle since I've never used them one single time since I purchased my Boss. I don't even know if they work! Which rotor warped or was it both sides?

I pulled the bottle when they had the front clip off doing the tow rings. I decided not to put the washer nozzle relocation brackets on the Tiger hood anyway. I figured since I never use it and the ducting path would be improved, why not

FWIW, i didn't move my washer bottle and i have had no issues at all with the slight bend on the pass side. rotors and pads wear evenly.

Any race pad manufacturer is going to tell you to not run them on the street for liability reasons. . Yes I run race pads on the street and they work just fine and during the One Lap I have run 4000 to 5000 miles between tracks with no abnormal wear, some squealing and dust yes. YMMV

Thanks I'll pull out the level this weekend.

So the race cars use 4 inch ducting and the "street/track" setup from Ford Racing is 3 inches..............intresting............

I think I'll look into removing the water bottle and straighten out the path.

Doug
I removed mine a while ago, makes a better fit for the ducts but also saves weight up front. How often do you really use it anyway?

On the splitter I put a level on it at first but found later it worked better with a slightly down angle.

I had quite a bit of flex with mine, it is home made. The Ford splitter may flex less, not sure. These pics give an idea of that flex, the first pic is coming into the pits and you can see a down angle. The others show how it would flex up at speed and I was only going about 110 or 120 there.

FWIW, the guys at vorschlag racing are working on a splitter that is made from a much more ridged material that will not flex. its still in the dev stage, but i saw it at their open house. very light like 12 pounds and uses some sort of soft core material wrapped in fiberglass. supposed to be much cheaper than the ford part too. they designed it because the LS splitter deflected at speed.

someone correct me if i'm wrong: is this really a replacement rotor for brembo/gt500 calipers up front? if so, $100 for a pair of fronts seems very cheap.

The MSRP and sale price are about half of what they should be for 5000s. The picture is of the old slot design so maybe they are on clearance. If it is legitimate that would be a steal and I'd be interested myself.

I got my 5000 pair for I believe $490ish when they were on sale at tire rack. As clearance it looks right. Msrp still seems low. Look at their return policy, if no charge to return looks like it would be worth a shot. Cheaper than the replacement rotor anyways haha

The item weight of 15lbs is way low for one-piece front rotors. You should be looking at 23-25lbs for OE equivalent.

does stoptech make a 2 piece aerorotor replacement for the brembo mustangs (if so, what's the part number??)? their website is horrible and doesn't help at all. i don't know if their 355x32 big brake kit rotor will work with the brembos (e.g. different hat design offsets the rotor to a different location).

ordered those DBAs 5000s from KMP. even if they're the old model, that's too good of a deal to pass up. if i had to guess, they fudged pricing from the 4000s maybe?
