Street cars that were race cars. Think 1969 Z/28 - the real one - and what that means to a Camaro guy.
The best Boss was never raced in Trans-Am with Factory backing - Boss 351 - because Ford pulled out in 1971.
That was the fastest, best-handling car direct from Ford until the 2003 Terminator Cobras. Boss 351 was faster than Boss 429, Boss 302, Mach 1's, and 428 CJ cars - hands down, and don't even think of putting a Boss 351 or 302 against any big block on a country backroad.
Boss 302 has roots in winning the Trans-Am series - and FAME.
Several teams used them - Prepped by Bud Moore, Carroll Shelby, and a few privateers.
The Boss is one of the few pony cars (Ford or otherwise) that actually EARNED it's reputation as opposed to 30 years of fish stories that make a decent car become a legend.

I can't wait for 2012 to get another 'Stang. Hopefully the BOSS power and suspension parts are available ala carte from FRPP.

There isn't anything (short of my kickin the bucket) that's going to stop me from getting a 2014 50th ann. car so I am holding out for that, but secretly.... the Boss is getting me thinking... lol

I'm with you on this one. I think the current generation powertrain (obviously) and interior are grand-slams above the 05-09, however, the exterior just does not do it for me. The mutton chops and diaper are enough to turn me off. The grille opening, hips, and hood are great!

It's tempting, but it would be a big waste of money. I'll enjoy my 08 GT Premium until then.
I drove my friends 2010 Shelby GT500 vert last Saturday and loved it! I've been pricing GT500's on the net everyday since-lol
Not serious mind you, just curious-lol
But, I know I'll regret it if I upgrade now. I would rather save my money and drive a 2014/15 GT or GT500.

You don't know yet if that's actually the case. We hardly know anything about the next generation yet. It could turn out you'd like the current generation better. Just saying...

I agree that we really don't know anything about the next gen 'stang for sure, however if he can wait until it's revealed, and doesn't like it, he can get a used 5.0 for cheap.

with the exception of maybe power ratings :P
Looks aside, which are always subjective...
... if the next gen isn't better than the current..something is SERIOUSLY wrong.
You ain't seen NOTHING yet

Like I've said before, there are always going to be aesthetic elements -- which are subjective -- that someone's going to have a problem with.

If for some strange reason I do not like it, I could always buy a 2013 GT500.

No, seriously... I don't know but two main reasons (other than looks) for me to skip this gen. is:
1. I've got way to much coin in my 07 to get rid of. Even a high private sale wouldn't fetch me enough to cover the mods, nor would parting it out.
2. A purchase of a 201x Boss would put me in a financial position where I'd have to trade it on a 50th anniversary car.
So, IMO, I'd rather wait for a 50th because, in the end, that'll be the car to have.

I wouldn't want to trade up an SE for a 50th anniversary car, if the 50th Anniversary is just a badge/colour package.

I'm starting to think that power/performance wise (and maybe price wise) this new Boss 302 won't be positioned between the performance of the GT and GT500. But actually beyond the GT500.

I hate to play devil's advocate here, but did any of you consider the government might put a damper on the next generation? Hell if they had it their way we'd all be driving Fiestas...nothing bad about the Fiesta, but it isn't a ball of fire!
Cafe standards are increasingly getting more stringent....

The power is up there, now if they can lower weight, that'll increase performance and mileage
While lightening the car and getting MPG helps as a whole,
the V8 mustangs are a spit in the bucket on the fleet average.

CAFE standards have gone up once in the last ~ 25 years? I think they'll be just fine. The 2011 base mustang has 300hp and 30mpg, and even ten years ago I bet most automakers would have said "impossible."
