Coolant loss
I have a friend with a 2008 Mustang GT.He came to have underdrive pulleys installed. When I pulled the fan/shroud and looked at the bottom of the radiator I was amazed to see that the lower radiator hose clamp was not seated properly on the hose.It was actually out past the radiator outlet. The only thing holding the hose on was the plastic guide that keeps the hose in position. That car had 57,000 mi on it and did not leak! If someone told me that could happen I would have had a hard time believing it,but I saw it with my own eyes.

What?? Are you serious??
Have you not seen what the originals are worth now? And that's only 40 years time....so he'll be dead in 40 years?
I'm not saying that these will follow the same value path as the originals but that's really all you can go by....anything could happen. Like someone said earlier, if the electric craze gets stronger, these may increase in value even quicker....who knows? But to say he'd be dead before it's a collector is extremely short sighted.

So I bought a 2012 Boss whit with black stripes, the recaro package, car cover and convinced the dealer to install factory Xenon HIDs...I bought this car yesterday with 7miles on it and am fully aware of how to properly break in a motor...this is the 3rd car that I own (2002 wrx with 400 wheel hp, 2005 ls2 gto and now the boss). So at about 90 miles i decide to get it on the interstate and bring the revs up a little pretty close to redline with out going full throttle and constantly changing gears as to not maintain constant revs...i properly heat the motor up before I drive it and never just shut the car off after driving i let it idle for a minute or 2. Any way, at exactly 100 miles before I have ever gone full throttle i notice that when I accelerate there is a significant amount of smoke coming out of the back of the car...at first I thought it was dust bening that it the roads were dirty and it was a very wind day, so i decide to do another slightly strong pull in third gear and the same thing happens. So I just chill for a little start jamming to some music and I look down at the gauge sluster about 5min later and the thermometer is pinned at hot and the cheng enginge light is on as is the coolant light. I immediately put it in neutral and get off on the next exit...i try to give it some gas and absolutly no power and a lot of bad noises from the engine!!! Pop the hood, no coolant! Coolant on the subframe and front splitter...go to the back and coolant on the back bumper!! the car had a full tank of coolant when I left that morning! it seems like a blown motor to me! either valve floated or rod punctured a whole in the block! If this is not the case I feel like it is absolutely terrible to over heat the motor for that long during break in and I had no power at all after I discovered the issue. i guess my question is...do these cars have a limp mode when stuff goes wrong is that the lack of power? and how bad is it to overheat for 5min during breakin. Either way ford better make this right or they will never here the end of this. i dont want a new motor (then the numbers dont match and it is a boss!) i dont want a rebuilt motor! And i really dont want them to say the motor is fine it just needs coolant and the car will be on its way! who knows what type of damage has been done and how the performance and life of the motor will be after the overheat!! What a crappy deal I want a new Boss Ford!
thanks for any input guys!

so the coolant line to the oil cooler fell of! I informed for corporate of the situation and they are going to put a "specialist" on the case. i want a new car with no issues! It looks like who ever put the hose clamp was hungover or yes 430p on a friday...yay america!
So I told the manager if you went to a dealer and were going to purchase one of these and they told you that at 90 miles the car over heated for 15min during the break in period, but we we still want 5-6k over msrp...you would tell that sales person to get lost this is essentially the situation you have put me in, granted its not your fault it is fords fault this needs to be made right! If you cant find me a new car you need to compensate me in a large way! re do the loan at msrp and give me the xenon HIDs for free otherwise my lawyer will be making a visit!
I know these things happen, but the consumer should not be the one to suffer from a lazy a** overpaid union worker who cant even put a hose on right.

You got an awesome car and I hope it all works out for you.
As for it being a collector's item, I have to agree with it being a very long time before that happens. Just look at the GT500s people bought and hid away - now hitting fleabay for less than $40k with very low miles. Or the Bullitts - very reasonable price for a SE limited edition. Many rotted on dealer lots and were sold at discounts. No love for them now in resale and unless kept in bubble wrap, probably limited collectability later.
I am just saying...the '69 BOSSes are valuable NOW because people drove them and thrashed them and the number of them dwindled over the years. How many are around now as opposed to production numbers? How many 2012 BOSS Mustangs do you think will be around in 30 years? Most likely ALL of them, except for a few that get totalled in accidents.
Creating a modern day collectible is an oxymoron. Iacocca Mustang? Seriously? Same principle can be applied to any collectable. I sold all of my Star Wars action figures at a garage sale to buy comic books....yeah....I know. One day working at a comic book store, I noticed (as I was carefully placing my new Spider Man issue in a plastic baggy to keep the air out) that the owner of the store had bought and bagged 15 copies of the same comic I was planning on collecting. After I thought about it, and realized that probably every comic book store in America was doing the same thing, it hit me that my one issue would NEVER be worth anything. Once something is "collectable", and collectors start storing away the new collectable, that garauntees that there will be tons of them in excellent condition years from now.
Your BOSS, slightly damaged or not, has value NOW and may never appreciate in the future. I say, buy it, enjoy it, new engine, rebuilt engine, whatever, the collectablity is a terrible reason to buy a BOSS.

i totaly agree, the ls's might be just based on numbers but at 3500 boss's a year cant see why people would pay over.....just dealer greed on a new item and should pass once more are built

Collectable?
The new Boss will be no more collectable in the future then Shelby's. The Bullitt was a limited to a pre-announecd production number. The Boss is a regular production Mustang, not limited to any total build number. You want to know what my 2001 tru-blue Bullitt with 38,000 miles and near perfect shape is worth now? Not much more then a 2001 GT (And they made very few in Blue) So enjoy your cars. The Boss is an incredible car that deserves to be driven and enjoyed. As the world becomes infested with Volts, Prius, and Leafs, let us all enjoy the last great days of true performance cars...

Perhaps the new 2011 Shelby GT350s will be worth something, there were not many built last year and it is a true performance beast.
A smart man would pick up a 2010 GT500 (KR with new body style, but alas, no love) with low miles and drive it like you stole it. Could have had one for a lot less than a $51k BOSS. I would personally take the BOSS over the 2010 GT500, because I am not a smart man, I am a passionate man.

There were a total of 8,641 Boss 302's made in 69-70. If they keep these at 3500 a year and for some reason cancel production after two years, then these will have lower production numbers than the originals. If they continue to make them for several years, then yes....it will have an impact.
And comparing these to a Bullitt? The Bullitt has no where near the same heritage as the Boss so we're in a totally different category. Apples to Oranges.
And comparing them to the new Shelby's? For one you can't make a determination on collectable value after only a few years in production. What the Shelby's are doing now has absolutely no reflection on what they'll do in 40-50 years. If that was the case then back in the 65-70's no one could have afforded one. Now, I'll agree....they're producing a lot more Shelby's than anyone expected so it will certainly have an affect. But once again, that won't really be known for many years.
My point is....no one can say with 100% certainty what their value will be. Speculation....simply that.

It seems that the numbers we are being told about the 2012/13 Boss is
about the same type of numbers that was being told about the 2003/4 SVTs.
The 2003/4s were to be limited and after selling so good, they made more
production runs. I think they ended up with a double number than they said at
first. I was the first in line to order one of the 2003 SVT and this seems like a
rerun of it with the Boss. I should have my Boss in a couple of days and am going
to enjoy it and not collect it!
