For those complaining about front end
The 2015 has been stripped of the brawny and distinct features unique to its muscle pony car heritage. The horse has been slaughtered! It has been rendered into a sports car.
Farewell good and faithful companion.

I think the Big Issue here is that People who Only See Fusion/ Aston Martin, are Focusing on the Shape of the Upper Grill Opening Only, and not looking at the Upper and Lower Opening as One Big Opening with the "Bumper" separating it into Upper and Lower halves. Much like the Grill Opening on the 68 Shelby Mustang, which as I posted before, was the inspiration for the 05-11 GT-500 and Entire 12-14 Mustang lineup, and now the 2015. One thing that was mentioned early on by Jay Mays, was they wanted to lower the front bumper height from the S-197's height and eliminate the huge shelf from the front of the car, which added too much visual weight to the nose of the car. In doing this, the designers lowered the "Bumper Bar" that bisects the grill opening but kept the overall shape of the grill the same. If you look closely at the Grill Opening of the 68 Shelby pictured above, you will notice it's Upper Section also has a hint of the turned in corners at it's lower outboard ends, which is where People are getting the "Aston Martin" from on the 2015. It is however a Mustang that the 2015 (as well as the Evos) derives it's Grill shape from, but it picks up on in a fresh and modern way by lowering the Bumper in that opening a bit further. To be fair, even though People say that the 2015 Mustang's Grill (and a lot of People say that Fusion's Grill) looks lika an Aston Martin's it really only bears a passing resemblance to an Aston Martin's Grill, the Aston Martin Grill has a Very Distinct and Pronounced inward curve at its Upper Outboard Ends, below the Headlamps, before changing angle and tapering inward.
I thought I saw a 15 somehow in my rearview mirror on the way home tonight- was raining pretty good, a half block behind me...
they turned and it was a fusion. really looked a lot like the pics ive seen of the 15, and gotta admit, its not a bad looking car coming at you, similar enough I think long term the rather poorly received 15 front end might grow on a lot of folks. it may not be uniquely mustang, but it should look good going down the road in real life. the fusion looks better in reality than pics to me.

cool- sorry for the thread hijack, but that was one of the coolest days of my life (before kids). was 10/14/1988 at the now defunct Richfield coliseum near Cleveland- a guy named Wayne Isham who was filming the show saw us outside with it(local radio contest was why) had us take it inside and fly it around in front of the stage, said 'Gilmours gotta see this- he loves anything that flies...' the guy with the camcorder is Scott Page, he was on sax that tour, I tracked him down a few years back, he still promises me a copy of his tape
we did get front row seats for the show, was really a cool day. I had been a floyd fan since about '78 when I helped a buddy put a stereo in his car, only tape he had was his sisters 'wish you were here' drove around for hours listening to that was hooked ever since. was so weird hoping to win front row seats to a show and by dumb luck, they came out to see us...man that was a great day.
back on the frontend topic- I wonder...theyve had 2 door falcons and falcon 'utes' in Australia for a while, to me this new mustang 'feels' more like a evolution of that car than the mustang to me... the only really mustanglike thing I see is tribar taillamps, but a lot of the other lines seem very similar to other bits and pieces on the market... its not 'ugly' to me, but just no longer unique/unmistakable/whatever...the 05 you could tell was a mustang from any angle from several blocks away, and my eyes aint that good...the 15 to me just seems a bit too typical, especially head-on.
Perhaps when production variants come to light, Ford might easily 'mustang it up' a little more- but I still dont understand why they had to veer so far away from what was one of the most welcomed redesigns (05) before selling it anywhere else? nor do i get why the 'ute' wasnt shipped over here- I think I mighta been tempted to get one of the boss330 utes, was a kinda neat little elcamino/ranchero thing, even if a little bland.

Anyway back on topic, as I totally agree with you and as much as I like the new 2015 Mustang.. I much prefer the retro styling of the current 05-14 models which instantly reminded me of the 1st generation 65-70 Mustangs that I admired and always wanted ever since the original 65 model was first introduced back on April 17th of 64..
Although the 2015 model is no doubt very sexy and technically far advanced over the current S-197.. It's just not enough that screams out having the desire to trade in my current 06 GT just in order to have one..
Perhaps if and once the car really grows on me after seeing it in person ? maybe down the road I may re-consider, who knows

I think if Ford came out with a 2 door Fusion with rear wheel drive and a V8 with at least 420hp people would be all over it. Having said that, I can definitely see the Fusion influence and I don't think it is a bad thing. The Fusion looks amazing. And as Tampa Bear pointed out, there is a ton of the original Mustang in the design and that is a very good thing. Overall I think it is a great design.
My thoughts....Ford moved it's overall design language closer to the Mustang. The Mustang did not move it's design language closer to the Fusion or Taurus. Yes there is now a closer family resemblance but common denominator is Mustang. If Ford had released the 2015 Mustang followed by the Fusion nobody would have complained.
Cant wait for Barrett/Jackson Scottsdale! They are auctioning one off so I can see one in a few weeks! YES! I was seriously wanting an 07 Shelby GT, but now me thinks we will wait and see this Rachel Welch GT350 that is waiting for me to drive....

True enough, but it just looks to be like Ford has a mixed bag of old, existing and new product on offer and that is of no benefit to the company with cars not helping sell others in the line up through familiarity.
