Think we will see a tiny peek on the 17th?

The oil embargo did put an end to the Muscle car and performance for some time. It also brought about the Mustang II and fuel economy concerns. While the engine output and overall performance was crippled, the Mustang II, in all due respect, kept the Mustang a smaller, sportier car than the '73. What if Ford wasn't forced to downsize? The '73 would have continued to grow and still offer smaller engines and less horsepower. Without the Mustang II, the Fox body could have ended up the 1978 Fairmont Futura... or at least been that size. Here was the proposed concept made in 1971 on the first Fox chassis.
became an '81 Cougar ten years later
and then the Probe (gen III) became the '98 Cougar also exactly ten years
after it was suppose to replace the Mustang after '88

My first car was a bright red 94 probe GT 5 speed. Loved it. The probe won MT car of the year in 93. Too bad a GMC Yukon XL T-Boned me and totaled it. After that I got an 05 Focus... The probe was a much better car IMO.

Interesting post on Mustang Monthly's Facebook page...................50 years ago today, Ford photographers were photographing this early concept.
I wonder what's been happening at the styling studios today

That's a pretty immature comment if I may say so myself. Considering that the '05 came out some 13 years later and benefited from all the newer, more advanced technologies and the fact that it's rwd.....I would hope it performs better. Let me tell you I owned a '95 Probe se and it was an excellent car and very fun to drive! Was it a Mustang replacement.....absolutely not. Was it a fun to drive, excellent handling, well performing(if underpowered a bit) fwd sports car....absolutely!

Easy enough to concede as the Fox and SN95/New Edge front suspension was mediocre at best and it would have been a step up in handling if Ford had just slathered the gas tank in grease and stuck a propeller at the end of the bumper and pinned the wheels to sides of the car with yarn for the rear suspension.

As a side note I enjoy all the negativity toward the Evos inspired mustang renders. Especially when mentioning how homogenous it would be with the Fusion, Focus and Fiesta, since we all know the Fox Body looked nothing like the Escort, Taurus and later the F series. Then the same with the SN95 and the Taurus and contour. The S197 was one to break the mold mostly. Though there has always been trickle. It's just going to happen.
I just don't see the new Stang starting that far from Evos like everyone seems to want.

I wish they [Ford] would just leak a photo already. I just sold my '12 because i settled for it and in wasn't happy.
The next one [15?] is going to be exactly the way i want it.
