the Cougar is the one that always really got screwed.. ^ This car actually
became an '81 Cougar ten years later

and then the Probe (gen III) became the '98 Cougar also exactly ten years
after it was suppose to replace the Mustang after '88

I would love for Ford to build a Mustang that corners as well as a Probe GT.

The original 67 to 70 Cougars are what BMWs are now.

My first car was a bright red 94 probe GT 5 speed. Loved it. The probe won MT car of the year in 93. Too bad a GMC Yukon XL T-Boned me and totaled it. After that I got an 05 Focus... The probe was a much better car IMO.

If Ford wanted to, I should think they could make a nice new Probe based on the Focus ST hardware.

That would be awesome. And a hatchback like the old ones too! It could compete with the brz/frs

Interesting post on Mustang Monthly's Facebook page...................50 years ago today, Ford photographers were photographing this early concept.

I wonder what's been happening at the styling studios today

They do, it started circa 2005 cementing its performance advantage in 2010 and as a bonus it has a higher top speed and out accelerates a Probe GT as well.

That's a pretty immature comment if I may say so myself. Considering that the '05 came out some 13 years later and benefited from all the newer, more advanced technologies and the fact that it's rwd.....I would hope it performs better. Let me tell you I owned a '95 Probe se and it was an excellent car and very fun to drive! Was it a Mustang replacement.....absolutely not. Was it a fun to drive, excellent handling, well performing(if underpowered a bit) fwd sports car....absolutely!

I loved my 94 probe GT. would've been nicer with 200hp, but it was a really fun car. Would love to see a RWD version to compete with the brz/frs.

You say immature, I just see it as answering UOP's query, even if it comes off as a bit of a smartass reply. Prior to the S-197 excluding the Terminator with its IRS the Probe did have an advantage.

Easy enough to concede as the Fox and SN95/New Edge front suspension was mediocre at best and it would have been a step up in handling if Ford had just slathered the gas tank in grease and stuck a propeller at the end of the bumper and pinned the wheels to sides of the car with yarn for the rear suspension.

As a side note I enjoy all the negativity toward the Evos inspired mustang renders. Especially when mentioning how homogenous it would be with the Fusion, Focus and Fiesta, since we all know the Fox Body looked nothing like the Escort, Taurus and later the F series. Then the same with the SN95 and the Taurus and contour. The S197 was one to break the mold mostly. Though there has always been trickle. It's just going to happen.

I just don't see the new Stang starting that far from Evos like everyone seems to want.

I wish they [Ford] would just leak a photo already. I just sold my '12 because i settled for it and in wasn't happy.

The next one [15?] is going to be exactly the way i want it.

I like the Evos based renderings. I also think the Ficus grill could be deeper set, lower and wider which would be perfect for the Mustang. I believe had that look debuted on the Mustang first we'd all be ecstatic.
