Next SVT Mustang may axe Shelby name, go naturally aspirated
Maybe an 8 spd Automatic "Platinum Edition" Mustang with AWD and a TTV6... Black with Chrome & Silver Trim, Wooden dash... to compete with the A5/S5, 6 Series, C Class...
That'd be quite different. lol ...and anything is possible!
I pray that's not the next Cobra though. lol

Although must of us that live in the snow belt would appreciate an AWD option, I don't think the GT needs it with the current more rev happy Coyote engine. What it needs is a better rear suspension, better weight balance y perhaps wider tires in the back. The GT500 on the other hand, with its 600+ lbs-ft of torque and most of its weight in front (58%) could use AWD for better traction and better usability of that monster of a engine. To much power for just two tires to handle in a front heavy car.

Definitely pass on a wanna be GT-R, in any event an AWD V8 Mustang would require either a very expensive compact system to accomplish this or would have to grow in size to accommodate a more mundane configuration or would have to go hybrid and deliver its AWD capability in similar fashion as Porsche has done with the 918.
All increased complexity, cost and weight for essentially keeping up with the Joneses in a magazine comparison. Especially on the top of the line Mustang which I'd wager would virtually never see snow to begin with and rain only because the owner didn't catch the weather report for the day.
Ford would be better off developing more advanced forms of stability and traction control as well as adopting a DSG for people who like to jerk the wheel and mat the gas in a turn.

Understeer in this car is easily balanced out with a little lift throttle mid corner or some extra gas at corner exit. I've been impressed so far

NOT what you think.
But it involves some Ikea furniture.
If Ford drops the FI engine altogether, its going to be a hard pill for Mustangers to swallow with GM and possibly Dodge having a factory FI option on the menu.
