Next SVT Mustang may axe Shelby name, go naturally aspirated
For sh*ts and giggles... release a drag pack GT350H. Not for Hertz, more for Hurts... That's where most original GT350H's ended up, on the strip and beat to sh*t.

Wish Ford would bring them back.
I held off in 2013 on a GT500 thinking Ford would bring one of these two units back & so far Ford did not.
So I pulled the trigger & ordered a 2014 Shelby GT500[Ruby-Red]
Waitting for my unit.
Still praying the Boss 429 or Boss 351 would come back.
Heck Ford could use the 5.8L Engine & nartural asperiate it & have the Boss351.

I agree with Knight, I don't believe the top dog Mustang can hang without forced induction of some sort. The ZL1 will break the 600HP barrier soon, I'm sure. MOPAR is working a ZL1/GT500 competitor too. Can't see the SVT version being merely 500HP. I would love a 7.0 NA engine at 500+ though!!!

All kinds of fun possibilities and sharing these small projects between internal divisions will utilize different budgets... Maybe this is why the Boss 302 was so good...
As for the Boss 429 and 351. I think all those Mach 1, Bullitt, Boss linage and Cobra Jet's need to reserve themselves for special occasions. The 429 and 351 are going to be harder to do as long as displacement remains dictated. The Mach 1 has special edition written all over it... Lets give it a try on an anniversary year. But look at the possible lineup that can be sprung from the GT, GT350, GT500 naming scheme. You have the R's, KR and Super Snake. With all those possibilities and just pure marketing streamlining, the product looks great and very marketable. It is consistent just as any other world class sports coupe/car. And lot's of flexibility and heritage comes from each of those names as additional packages. Lets face it, to have the ultimate Mustang, it might drive the cost way up... Making a base halo car with two equal options that give you one or the other is a nice strategy. Optimize the GT500 for what YOU need it for. Don't be forced to pay for extra coolers and track stuff when you drag race all the time. Why pay for any of the performance stuff when all you want is a GT500.
AND OFFER TRACK WARRANTIES!!! Make each owner/competitor feel as if Ford is in a sponsorship role of an amateur. It would feel like you had factory support for the 1st season. That would feel WONDERFUL!!
Hell, don't even call it a warranty... Option it as Competition Factory Support. 1 year/15,000 miles and maybe charge a little for it ($900-$1900). It covers drivetrain, suspension and supporting systems. No body damage, consumables or wheel/tire wear. However, a service discount for someone that has a Ford "R" account could get discounts during the season on your typical service items. Talk about stimulating a segment.

The differences between the base and R models being lack of a rear seat, all coolers as standard equipment, better suspension (hopefully MR), better aero, etc.
For the other models, have an SVO package for the I4 turbo with a more aggressive gear, bigger brakes and stiffer suspension. The GT should have a track package again with the same basic upgrades as the current one.
I like the sound of that lineup, Steve, and it sounds plausible.
I'm interested to see if the I4 Turbo is the entry level but I suspect, like you pointed out there, that it will actually sit above the V6. If that's the case, I'd expect it to sport the 350bhp that has been indicated it'll have in the RS Focus. Calling it an SVO would be a nice (80's) retro touch, too........assuming it's not actually an SVT product (I'm assuming the GT350 will be the only true SVT Mustang?)

They have a NA motor as the base, and the Ecoboost as the option but with similar specs.

More than likely. Lopping two cylinders off and going to an inline setup from a V will reduce weight. Plastic plumbing won't weigh much, and with a smaller turbo and small intercooler, you will add some weight back, but not all.
Just haven't seen any weight numbers. Would be awesome if they give the turbo 4 more power. Would love to see a light weight SVO
The turbo four will make more power than the V6 along with the premium price wise. 300 for the V6, 350 for the turbo, 450 for the V8.
