I couldn't agree more, as it appears more as though the upcoming S550 is going to evolve from the current S-197 after all, at least shape wise anyhow..

Many core Mustang buyers are pretty conservative/regressive/reactive when it comes to engineering and technology and don't take readily to new-fangled, furrin anything.

Also, I recall the SN-95 was sort of an on-the-cheap, stop-gap hack job on the old Fox chassis after the plan to develop a new FWD deservedly hit the rocks. There just wasn't the engineering money to properly develop a more complex hatchback so hence the reversion to a simpler, easier and cheaper trunk-body update of the old Fox chassis. Remarkably, it would be another 10+ years before a proper redesign of the Stang would take place. Who ever would have guessed back in '79 that the basic underpinnings of the then hot new Stang would still be creaking around a quarter century later.

Thus the '94 Stang was offered only in a trunk form with the ensuing loss of space and utility.

Certainly the Focus or Fiesta couldn't withstand 400+hp, they never were intended to and being hatchbacks or not have little to do with that (I don't think the 4-door Focus would be any happier with a 5.0 than the 5-door version.). Of course, that says nothing about whether a hatchback Stang could be built to readily handle 400+, or even 600+ hp.

That all said, I doubt Ford will go the hatchback route with the '15, regardless of how desirable that feature would be to many, especially newer, younger buyers weaned on and comfortable with hatchbacks.
I also don't understand why GM didn't design the current Camaro as a hatchback as they could've done something similar like they have with the C7 Corvette or even something like the new Stingray..

As for the Mustang ? I also wouldn't mind if Ford designed the upcoming S550 something similar to the new Stingray hatch as long as it has the full fastback design like the 67-68 Mustang had.. Just my $.02

This is the car I have now. I love how versatile the hatch it. I also love that nobody thinks it's a hatch.

Another example for a solid hatch would be the good ole Supra. Yea it might need a lil help once you get up there with the power numbers but for the most part it handles good power just fine

The ideal thing would be if Ford offered the new Mustang in your choice of hatchback, coupe, or convertible. Then everybody can have what they want. It would increase the cost of production some, but would also increase sales some, giving the Mustang an advantage over the Camaro.

It's too bad Mercury was killed off. They could have brought back the Capri as a mechanical clone of the Mustang but with a totally different body, like they did in the Fox-body days. Give the Capri a hatchback and sell the Mustang as coupe and convertible. Hmm, maybe Lincoln could do it.

Here's my $0.02 - hatchbacks have the impression of being an economy car feature for the most part. I know there are exceptions but MOST hatchbacks are in small economy cars.

I would be very surprised to see a hatchback Lincoln ever.

I personally prefer the current coupe style along with the Audi A5 or BMW 3 series even the 135 is cool.

Talking

The camo car looks more like a notchback than a fastback. Almost like the original Mustang.

Interesting observation. Well the original mustang was revolutionary. And this is the first global mustang from ford, another new stepping stone. A new era, so maybe we'll see 64 1/2, 66 cues

Hopefully no one is bothered. I don't want to be off-topic, but I also don't want to ignore the request.

I've moved dressers, bumpers, cat-back exhaust piping, full set of unmounted tires and wheels. Extremely useful.

Thanks for posting your RSX pics, and it's definitely hard to tell you have a hatchback until you actually open it up

Yah, I've moved a ton of stuff with my RSX too. I always said if it were RWD, had 100 more HP, and some actual TQ I'd still have it.

My Eclipse is a hatch too. Just like the RSX, I've moved tons of stuff in it. Back seats fold down and it's like a frekin station wagon in there!

Re: 2015 Mustang Spied!

Don’t worry mustang fans, we had an employee reveal today, and the Mustang got a huge applause.
As far as looks go,
I thought I was looking at a tweaked version of current, so it looks very much like mustang.
Profile is a bit more fast back like.
Rear is more sporty, with more rake.
Rear fenders bulge, not unlike the hero stang we recently saw from NFS movie.

We also saw a performance version, and all I can say is, it is maybe the most beautiful car I have ever seen.

Enough for now.

Re: 2015 Mustang Spied!

Dang, if you squint your eyes and elongate the hero stang a bit to give it a sleeker, lower look, that is pretty much what next stang will look like.

As for specs, I know all of them because of where I work, but can't say.
