Full body camo mule spotted
The first 2005 Mustang I saw was sitting in a hotel parking lot. The Mustang just stood out from the rest of the generic looking cars. That 2005 Mustang was black and looked like a race car among street cars. After seeing the 2005 Mustang, I bought a black 2007 Mustang GT and still get a thrill out of seeing it after I open the garage door. With as many supercharger kits out there, it is easy to get the performance that would scare most people.

Perhaps there were some of those who gleefully chose an 05 LS2 GTO over the 300HP turd of the 05 Mustang GT back in 2005..
However I wasn't one of them, as I proudly still own my 300HP turd of a 05 Mustang GT and would make the same choice a million times over and my reason is this, I've been die hard Mustang and Ford fan ever since the 1st generation Mustangs were introduced back in 64 and will always remain loyal to Mustang and Ford..
I also remember the 1st generation GTO from (64-70) and when Pontiac brought it back in 2004, it didn't remind you of those 1st generation cars whatsoever in fact why Pontiac even put the GTO name on it is an abomination in itself that was really nothing more than just a re-bagged bloated Cavalier with an LS2 from down under (Holden Monaro) far cry from it's original American muscle car roots..
At least when you see a Mustang, you're able to recognize it as a Mustang and although the Fox bodies were completely different from the 1st generation cars they still carried the traditional long hood and short rear deck as I owned 4 fox bodies until purchasing my current 05 GT in which you refer to as a turd, but then again, you also owned one of those 300HP turds as well..
So as you said, looks aren't everything, but on the other hand who has the most power isn't everything either and if I were so concerned about having more bragging rights ? I would simply upgrade to a set of high flow ported heads, cams or go forced induction or even better yet look for a wrecked 2011-14 GT and do a 5.0 engine swap and still come out ahead over getting another vehicle altogether whether it may be better or not..
What's important to me, is that I love and enjoy my Mustang just the way it is regardless of whether it's 300HP turd 4.6.. As I don't race my car or use it as a track car, therefore 300HP is just fine as far as I'm concerned..
So just as you quoted, Different Strokes for different folks !

I just wish the 05-09 Gen would of have the better hardware at the time, but it was cool having both in my household at the same time. :-)

So compared to the old 5.0 push rods, the 05-09 4.6 3 valves were considered far advanced over the previous 302, technology wise at 300HP.
As much as I would like to get a 2013-14 GT, I simply cannot afford to start from scratch all over again with having car payments to worry about as I still have another 3 years until my wife's 2011 Ranger is paid off and chances are that even if I really like the upcoming 2015 Mustang ? I'll still have to wait until at least 2017 before I'm able to purchase one..
So in the meantime, at least my current 05 GT was finally paid off 2 years ago and if I feel the need for more power, I can continue to modify it and not have to worry about putting up with car payments all over again..
As for your 2005 GTO is concerned ! I was not attempting to put your car down in anyway and what matters most, is that you enjoyed your GTO during the 7 years in which you owned it and that's what really counts..
I'm just a baby boomer from the old school who remembers the 1st generation muscle cars growing up and the current 05-14 Mustangs take me back to those 1st generation 65-70 pony cars and are as close as your ever going to get to them IMHO !
