Ford to discontinue V8
#21
Ford has been competing with fewer cubic inches for decades now. They've trailed the size war but have for the most part stayed competitive. Now they've pulled ahead even with smaller motors so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Does this make me happy ummm heck no!!! :saddaysindeed:
Hell, put two fricken 2.3s together and you have a 4.6TT V8 for the GT500, two 2.0s together and you have a 4.0TT V8 for the GT. How does no one at Ford see that?
The government cannot fine them for selling V8s. That is EXTREMELY unconstitutional.

I wouldn't trust horsepowerkings, they've been wrong plenty of times before.
Here's what they thought about the GT's powertrain

Not that other sites don't spread false information, they just make some wild and wrong claims...
They're making this assumption from the GT and Raptor getting the V6. The GT from what I've read was supposed to have the V6 from the start. Not only is it a great engine, but using an Ecoboost in their (hopefully) Ferrari beating supercar is an amazing way to market the Ecoboost line.
The Raptor probably got the V6 because like the 6.2 was, the 3.5 is the top of the line engine.
Not to mention that Ford didn't put lots of money in to the 5.0 and 5.2 just to discontinue it in a few years. No one who I trust has said anything about this. The Coyote is here to stay for a while. I wouldn't listen to them.

Sure ! If I could afford to add a 2015 to my stable ? I'd love to have one, but I can't right now as I still have 2 years left on my wife's 2013 Escape before the lease is up.. And with a mortgage on top of that, there's just no way I could take on financing a second vehicle..

The new Raptor and Ford GT are confirmed by Ford corporate to be V6 EcoBoost engines. They both have pages on Ford.com showing them off.

Third, CAFE mpg is very different from the fuel-economy-label mpg numbers on every new car. That’s because the CAFE figures are based on the original city and highway fuel-economy tests established in the Seventies, while the window-sticker numbers combine those values, along with the results of three other emissions tests, to produce mpg figures that better-match real-world driving. In general, the combined mpg on a vehicle’s label is about 20 percent lower than the CAFE mpg.

Here's another good article

I believe there's quite a few determining factors on the standard like the company itself, type of vehicle etc.
It's true that Ford is phasing out most of their V8 line up. I just don't think they are planning to phase out all of them just yet. I think as long as Ford keeps selling their Ecoboost and other high fuel mileage vehicles we may still see V8's around, maybe in smaller numbers though.

I've been saying that the CAFE standards and gov't auto regulations are going to stomp enthusiasts in the throat before long so this news isn't a complete shock to me, if true. It's like in the early 1970s when people were appalled at the crappy cars Detroit produced. Hey, fool me once, but having seen this movie before I'm glad I bought a 2012 GT when I did.

The site has often been considered click bait and some forums like Mustang6g and SVT Performance outright block the site. It's just another reason why everyone should ignore what they say.

Three things.
1. 2k is 100% right. This is what happens when you vote a bunch of liberals into office who have been trying their best to make everyone in America take the bus for the last 40 years. They despise personal transportation and they especially despise personal transportation that allows the common man to drive anything better than a POS Corolla.
2. I can't help but see the humor in this. All the talk about how the V6 Mustang was going to go away and as it turns out the GT will likely become a V6 car.
3. It is a bitter sweet pill because the V8 in the GT is such a wonderful engine. It sounds like God screaming at wide open throttle. It is an experience like nothing else to put your foot into a Mustang GT off the line and feel that surge of power accompanied by that howl of menace and destruction that it promises.

I wish I could travel back in time. So glad I was able to buy my '14 GT when I did. Just the thought of not having a V8 sickens me. Screw the EPA.

GT350, Shelby stuff, Roush stuff and other models situated above the GT will very likely keep the V8. But I could see Ford putting the V6 ecoboost in the GT. It sounds just like the prevailing thought process within the company and the car industry in general right now.
