Pretty cool looking car, but it looks more like a modernized Probe than a Mustang. That's just my opinion, though. I never was much of a Probe fan, I have to say. What kind of name for a car is "Probe" anyway? Sounds like a medical instrument a proctologist might have.

I totally agree - it is a good looking rendering, but more "Probe-like" than Mustang.
I wrote an article today about the EVOS hinting at the Mustang...http://www.mustangevolution.com/must...-for%e2%80%a6/

I hope they go the way of the Fox-body Mustang and do something that is completely new and the only homage it pays to the classics is maybe a running pony somewhere on the car. Think about it, the fox body was a huge success for Ford, but looked nothing like any of the Mustangs that came before it.
I own a 2010 GT500 and a 1965 fastback currently and have owned various other Mustangs through the years and I, for one, would like to see something truly "new" for the car.

If you need further proof, just look at early ads for for the S-197 featuring previous cars. 64-66 - check, 67-70 - check 71-73 - check, 74-78 - check, 79-93 - ..., 94-98 - ..., 99-04 - check
The fox cars have a well deserved place in Mustang history (like it or not they brought back the modern musclecar era and epitomized the low buck high performance car) but they were to great a departure in styling (with possibly having the stigma of being a mullet mustang) for Ford to trade in on its heritage at this time.

We have a wierd thing in the UK at the moment, the Ford ads are all about the Euroboxes that Ford produce, but the Chevy ads are fronted by the Corvette and the Camaro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUWSyiyb4JE. You can buy the 'vette from a dealer here, but not the Cam. Then it pans to a crap car that I would rather stick knitting needles in my eyes rather than owning.
Maybe ford should try the same tack, have the mustang fronting an ad campaign...... If they used a concept, the furore caused over here would be something to behold!!

See, this is what makes me nervous about J Mays' comments about the next-gen not being retro, yet will use the key elements that make a Mustang a Mustang

Let's hope the next Mustang isn't such an abortion that it has to be renamed "Probe II"

Don't Think for a Minute that this is not close to a real posibility. I have said more and a few time it is not the "RETRO" styling that needs to go, It is the term RETRO. That word is hurting the future of the mustang. We are STUCK on it that ANYTHING even close to Mustang DNA is called RETRO STYLING. My question for FORD is this. Are you building Mustangs or NOT. The car has a style, look and a DNA that makes it MUSTANG. I thought we learned this Lesson back in 93.

As I mentioned, I think the EVOS design language is very amenable to an updated Mustang design and I think those sketches are perfect examples. I might tweak a few things, of course (longer nose to fit a V8, more of a side scallop, tri-lens tail lights...), but the EVOS can very easily and naturally evolve into a NextStang that is both fully modern and fully a Mustang.

I agree. The EVOS already has a front end that would support the Stang design. The large open grill is there it just needs some tweaking. I think the EVOS is a very sharp looking car and Mustang aside I would love to see ford buil the EVOS. Although those door could get expensive.

To varying degrees, I respect most all Mustangs but my interest in modern Mustangs began in '05 with the S197. Before then, there was little interest by me at all. If J Mays screws this up, I'll just return to my beloved classics. A shame and probably a lost sell for Ford, but no skin off my back. Maybe I'll just look for a lightly used S197...
