I'll play this game - here's what I liked / didn't like through the years, including the 2015.
pre-87. This was pre-high school for me, so I won't offer too much of an opinion. But 1st gen Mustangs do make my head turn.
87-93 - I can honestly say that I didn't really appreciate the fox platform. It just looked too boxy to me to be considered a sporty car. Nowadays, I can more fully appreciate the compact style; but it's still one of my least favourite Mustangs from a looks perspective.
94-98 - I like the curvier look than the earlier model, but something about it seemed unfinished. It was a much larger Mustang, and to make up for that, I felt that you need it to look much better. It didn't quite do that for me.
99-04 - I bought my first Mustang, a used 99 'vert. One of my favourite Mustangs from a looks perspective - curvy, and much more elegant than the 94-98's. At the time I loved the look. But now, it feels a bit out of date.
05-09 - The appeal of these was the retro-look. In all, I think that the look has a very basic, down to earth feel to it. But it was a large departure from my '99. I liked my '99's look far more. However, I think this model will have a solid, lasting appeal.
10-12 - I didn't like this redesign at first. I especially didn't like how the rear of the car looked. However, the more I saw of this car on the road, the more it grew on me.
13-14 - By now, the style had grown on me significantly, and I began to appreciate all aspects of the car. I pulled the trigger for a '14, and I think it's the best looking Mustang so far. It's much more modern looking than the 05-09, that's for sure, but it's still very aggressive and still curvy.
15+ - When it was first revealed, I was lukewarm on the 2015. I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I don't mind the front grill, which is a big arguing point with others. The thing that bugs me is the way the rear end looks like it's from a different car than the front end. However, as time crawls on and I've seen more pictures, it's grown on me a bit. When I see it in person for the first time, that's when I'll know whether or not I like it. So far, from a looks perspective, I think my 2014 has it beat.

Lmao this thread is stupid. By this time next year everybody will be praising pics of somebody's 15'. Customizing and what not will have everybody getting the itch. It's a new designed mustang. Every new mustang has been hated the first couple years since the 70's. The fox body was an abomination to the name plate in 79 but turned out to be one of the favorites. Same with this rendition and the next.

but think about it. .... it is why mustang has been around for 50 years. they keep changing it up. they have to. Just imagine what would happen if it car had slight changes year over year, it would die out like a lot of cars do because consumers get bored. I love the fact that I can easily see 4 decades of mustangs on the road today and they all look different from one another and everyone still loves them regardless.

So while I agree that they have changed the look of the car over the years that doesn't mean that every change is automatically better than the last iteration. There are certain Mustangs that appeal more to me than others based on the way the car looks. In that regard the 2015 does not appeal to me because I just don't like the front end. I figure that Ford will do a refresh of the front end after 3 or 4 years and it will look a lot better. I also don't think the take rate on the ecoboost is going to be nearly as high as Ford is counting on but that's another thread entirely.

Well I don't think he was trying to make the case that the Mustang is a Porsche more than he was making the point that a car can carry along a very similar design theme for a long time and still remain popular. The Mustang certainly has as much heritage as the Porsche, perhaps even more so. It is the single best selling sports coupe of all time after all. And the fact of the matter is that the 2015 has carried over a lot of the design cues of the S197 and to that end that means it also carries the design cues of the 60's era Mustangs. So technically 15 of the 50 years of Mustang design will all share the same basic design theme and that design them is likely to continue into the future. You can see the forward leaning "shark bite" nose, the fastback, those aggressive rear shoulders and a few other similarities. There isn't even a hockey stick line on those Mach's, something some people felt was needed. I think the 2015 is a great modern interpretation of the original Mustang (And that we really need a Mach 1 for this generation).
If anyone is interested, here's what Ford says the design is about:
