another modern one: the late model montecarlo I would place way ahead of the edsel on my ugly list, they look like a inflatable toy going down the road...remember the 70's montecarlos? I wasnt a big fan, but those huge creases were unmistakeable...the newer one coulda been a pinstripe and been as 'effective' for so-called styling

I just cant shut up cant wait to see the next model, but worry a bit too...
I was so excited at rumors of the 10 getting the 'hips' as they soon came to be called, but it was so subtle it just didnt click to me...then the way the side crease reappears from nowhere-to nowhere behind the wheel opening reminds me of the exact same styling detail on the taurus and explorer. I just hope fords next 'more modern' interpretation of the mustang dont come with a tri-bar grille, or those headlight/taillight lenses that kinda smear up into the hood/trunklid like most newer 'sporty cars'. I'm also hoping perhaps the hockey stick goes away- think the boss 302 (both 69 and 70 style) would 'fit the body' better without it, and both stripe styles are definitely 'mustang'
it looks good, but those stripes i think might look better without reversing the crease (69-ish)or crossing over it (70-ish).
my least favorite things on the 05 were the quarter windows (that carried over- but SHR louvers 'fixed' that for me), the hockey stick (which carried over), the huge wheel arches (which instead of becoming smaller, simply lost all definition)...still all in all they do look great, just nit-picking my favorite too...the new 'hips' line is nice, but was hoping for a little more aggressive, the new front is great, i still simply cant stand the rear- its just personal preference. I think the new camaro in profile isnt bad looking (beltlines too high, but still not horrid) but the 'modern' nose and corvette-ish taillights ruin it for me...I love the new challenger overall more than even the 05, but the slab sided quarters sure coulda used a real crease somewhere to break them up- and its big as a mack truck
ever take a good look at the 69 fastback lines? the way the hood edge line follows back to the bottom of the side scoop, which rolls the line back forward to the 'hip' line, to top of door/fender? then the hip line swoops smoothly back to a spoiler like flare, while blending with the roof is inset so the 'hip' is huge (kinda like a 66+ charger which I think started that trend). there was a LOT going on there, but lines didnt get crossed up at all, not 'busy' looking despite the many lines...and that body doesnt get called bland or ugly very often.

They are naturally lower because most people who really wanted one bought an '05-10 model and most likely still have it. I still have my '05 and will just hang on to it unless the new one blows me away.

As long as they are changing it up so much, I for one would love to see it lose the rear seat. I never use it for anything. I mean, if you really need it, you should be buying a four door sedan that seats five. Two seater = lighter(quicker), shorter, sportier, etc.

I think cudak888 at AFM was going in a good direction.

not bad- but I think the worst visibility second to a lamborghini countach was a 71 fastback... I think if the rear rake was flattened out at the trunk more like 69/70 it would help- and the decklid needs pushed back- that chop still has the bottom rear all puffed out, think a more vertical tailpanel would help a lot. And I still like the more radiused 'boomerang' trim on the quarter glass of the 69/70 too...
not a bad chop though. I wish ford woulda went with a 71 mach hood - the new 'powerdome' kinda reminds me of the bigblock chevelles.

The true coupe roofline sloping into the half trunk, b-pillar without a little rear window (like the camaro) is practically a mustang copyright, to me. The 05/09 was, and is, just about as good as it can get. That said, the 10+ caught my attention, and I have a '12 on order. Want mine before Ford screws it up.

Seriously the Mustang can't survive on it's own platform going forward even without the idea of "One Ford". But seeing as this is the direction of the company the solid axle has to say goodbye. People are frazzled by the quotes of "non retro". Mostly this is about the underpinnings. The car will still very much look like a Mustang should. Going forward this car has to sustain two or more other vehicles. Most likely in 2015, the Falcon will gain from it and be sold to world markets (Fleet/Cop/Taxi Replacement state side). In 2016 you will see a Lincoln variant. If you really want a solid axle Stang, 2013-14 will be your years. The updates fix all the gripes people have about the black plastics/taillights/sync/brakes/etc.
