The Edges that I looked at only showed a 1-2 mpg increase over the more powerful V-6 but cost $2K more.

I think the V6 is a hedge in the Northa American market against an anti-Turbo bias. From what the Europeans an Oz events were saying, we're the only market getting the 6

Probably also to do with North American rental fleets

However I would guess that the 3.7V6 is established and cheaper to build for now and the 2.3 EB4 is more expensive initially so they build all three and eventually drop the 6.
Choices I love, not complaining about choices. Goofy that Ford would make the 4 cylinder mustang more powerful and faster than the 6 cylinder model. It would be like making a 6 cylinder turbo with 10 more HP than the 5.0. That's goofy too me. The 4 banger should be the base , 6 banger upgrade from 4 and 5.0 being the top dog

Geez you bring this up again?

The two piece is a great piece. It is engineered as part of an entire system for safety in accidents (incl rear end collision to avoid puncturing fuel tanks and burning you up like Paul Walker), provides driveline system resonance well above the speed limiter (155 mph in V8's), overall NVH, to name a few.

However, the 2015 went IRS remember?

Agree as well, but even a small rise in corporate CAFE (.3) will have a huge impact. If FMC can make more money and improve their CAFE . . . all the better!

im sure they are phasing out the v6 and need the over lap to get people on the four banger boat.

I believe that you are correct. Just like the styling, people will resist change until they are desensitized.

Don't assume a car with IRS can't have driveshaft issues. When I bought my 99 Cobra new I had to take it back to the dealer because of a driveshaft vibration which was a common problem on 99 Cobras.

So what's this "secret feature"? I suppose someone has already posted this but there are way too many pages to read through.

I can already tell you that in my country the ecoboost will be the most popular version.

Not cause of the environment, but purely cause the government taxes the HELL out of the CO2 emissions, and pust that forth in the purchase price. The GT version will probably run upwards of €100k here I guess.

And since I suspect the V6 to also put out more CO2 then the ecoboost engine, that makes the choice pretty easy.

That's why I don't understand the 2.3...in most countries that tax for engine displacement, it goes up severely over 2.0 - Ford could've just offered the 2.0 with a tune to 260-270hp and left the V6 as an upgrade, but obviously in other lineups, that's not the case.

It seems that it will be the "cheap" option as well. I think it was a smart move.

it would be so sexy to see a ecoboost 3.6 or a 5.0 crammed into a fusion

Over here they don't care about the displacement. They care about CO2 emissions.

If your car stays below 110 gr/km of CO2, you don't pay taxes on it.
If the car goes beyond that, but remains below 180 gr/km, every gram tacks €95 onto the sales price... and that's before VAT.
Go beyond that to 270 gr/km, they bill you €256 per gram onto the sales price.
And if you exceed 270 gr/km (which the Coyote probably does at some 300 or so), every gram adds €667.

Ofcourse at that point VAT taxes (percentage of the price) and whatnot still have to tack on there.

We calculated it once for a 2011 I recall... Just on CO2 emission tax (so NO purchase of the car, no transport, not custom fees, and NO addional taxes added in) we came to some €60.000 onto the sales price.

And THAT's why the smallest, most economical engine (cause I'm not even talking about our gasprices, which with taxes get in the region of $8 to $9 per gallon) is a REALLY attractive choice.

I think the 2.3, AWD, and a nice suspension would make for a killer Fusion ST.

Too small. How about the new 2.9L?
