I think Ford took a look at the Mustang buying demographic and knew well before even our "Retro" S197 generation came out, that if they wanted the Mustang nameplate to live on and be in continuous production, some major changes would be needed to attract a younger buying demographic. And while no doubt much loved and successful, the "Retro S197" platform was a bit of a stop gap, until they could get the global platform system worked out, in place and on line. Yes, there have been some boo boo's along the way in the Mustang's past. But I believe we have a much smarter corporate Ford these days.....there will be enough Mustang heritage in the S550 to appeal to long time Mustang fanatics and enough "new and cutting edge" to attract a wider and younger Mustang buying audience. Which is good for all of us, in that the Mustang nameplate will live on....for a while at least....

Keyword best Front wheel drive. The ST is a really nice car, handles great too. Ultimately though the front wheel drive torque steer, lack of traction and wheel hopping suckiness overpowered all of the other stuff and it ceased being fun for me. If the ST was all wheel drive it would be just plain epic.
The ST at the end of the day is a really fun daily driver you can tune and build into a beast. You get a few really nice option in the ST that you cannot get in the mustang right now.
also people are getting st1 cars for under 21k

Focus ST? How about a Fiesta ST? Here's one for $500K. AWD and 0-60 in 1.9 seconds. I can't cost justify it myself, but I'll bet it would be a blast to go fetch groceries in!

New models will slow sales but once the new model comes out sales will go up again.
I think GM changed the taillights because the Corvette people were having a tantrum over the lights on the Camaro and C7 looking too similar. Corvette people do not want to be associated with Camaro people in any way. Some of the long time owners were starting to look at Porsches. GM needed to bring them back. IMHO.

I actually don't mind the new tail lights, they are closer to the original 60s style Camaros than the quad style. They could've designed them a little better. I think the black diaper is what ruins the style even more though. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed that.

I have 7800 miles on my ST and say I do not have a issue with torque steer. You only get torque steer during very hard launches. If you do a 3000 rpm clutch drop in the 5.0 it is just as much of a handful. If the ST was AWD it would be really fun but it would be heavier and need a power upgrade.

Totally agree with this! I love older Mustangs and love my 2011 but I'm ready for something new. Let's see: it will be lighter, more powerful, more efficient(most likely) and will have IRS so it will handle and ride better. What's not to like? Styling? I have faith in Ford.
BTW I love the new Corvette. Wish I could afford one of those.

I never heard anyone complain of cars that feature aluminium or steel.
And do we actually have any official word from Ford that the Mustang will make the switch to using more of it?

Is the Coyote 5.0 any "less muscular" than the old Windsor 5.0 because it is made of aluminum rather than iron?
Undoubtedly most car makers will be using more lightweight materials, including aluminum amongst other, to shed deadweight and make their cars more efficient, whether that efficiency is reflected in higher MPG or faster MPH, or a balance of both, all while belching out less stink. Oh, and we'll also have to endure significantly better vehicle dynamics without all that lard to move about.
