I would Love it if Ford decided to sell the Turbo 4 here. With better weight distribution, gas mileage and handling, Give me a Turbo 4 Cylinder with a 6 Speed Manual, and a Track Pack Suspension and I'd be Very Happy!

In my opinion, the look of the S550 (or ANY Mustang) merely has to be good looking. It doesn't have to be retro. It doesn't have to be modern. It doesn't have to be "Global". And, it doesn't have to refreshed; it just has to be good looking. Yeah, I know that's subjective, so that means most people will think it's a nice looking car. No single car has ever impressed all folks.

Long time Mustang or Ford fans will buy it as long as it's good looking, and probably even if it's less than nice. Others will buy it if it's good looking; even Europeans and Australians. They won't care so much about retro or modern, in my opinion. However, I think Ford believes they need to "modernize" the look to attract a broader customer base. I think they want to globalize it so they can cross-pollinating parts such as brackets, buttons, steering wheels, and other generic components perhaps.

I also have one thought on the Fusion-like front end. The Mustang will not be mistaken for a Fusion, nor a Fusion for a Mustang. As long as this new Stang is good looking (and, again, I understand that's subjective), it will sell among Mustang and Ford fans and others as well. Mopar and Bowtie fans won't buy it no matter the thing looks like.

We don't know if this car will be good looking or not at this point. Some don't like the Fusion front end, but I don't believe that's because it ain't good looking...because it is nice looking. We'll see the rest of the car in the coming months, but my fingers are still crossed Ford won't bungle any of it.

So if it's designed to rules of the Golden Section, we're all good then. But it may look very Aston Martin since that is their design philosophy.

I think Ford has made this move away from retro to try to save the car. Don't get me wrong I love the current styling but it is getting stale. Part of the uniqueness of the 2005 Mustang when it was launched is the fact that nothing on the road looked like it. The problem with the car's styling came shorty after with the Challenger and Camaro using similar retro styling. To the common observer these cars now all look the same. If Ford nails a popular design they will retain many loyal fans (I for example like almost all Mustangs) and gain new ones (people who hate the current car).

I remember not liking the 1999 Mustang when it was first launched but the power upgrades quickly made me forget about my prior prejudices. How many 2005-09 fans hate on the 2010 cars and end up trading in for a new 5.0 a year later? If the new Mustang performs well it should still sell even if people prefer the styling of the current car

I agree that if the 15 has enough added power over the current stangs many people won't care what they look like. Give a 5.0 with close to 500 HP from factory, they won't give too sheets about the styling.

I wonder if all the three models were given the same crappy two piece driveshaft as current models or given a respectable one piece driveshaft?

pretty certain a two piece/carrier bearing/mount costs more than a one piece...dunno why ford used one, but imagine it had to do with NVH tuning, or insurance of not ripping the saddle type fuel tank in event of a joint failure?

they tend to pinch pennies everywhere, just guessing they felt justification for the extra joint/bearing was there. would be a good question to ask Ford, maybe Deysha could find out?

the new car being IRS should definitely NOT have a 2 piece, as a slip joint is not required with a rigid mounted center... hope the halfshafts are tough enough

I'm just confused about why Ford is giving three engine options. I watched the after dark party from American Muscle who was there. A Ford rep spoke about the engine options and the 4 banger turbo will be more powerful than the V6 model. The 4 banger will have more HP and be a step up option from the base V6.

Also, an article reported the 2015 V6 model is loosing 5 HP taking it down to 300 HP in order to make more head room.

That's like making the 2015 V6 more powerful than the 5.0. I don't get why have a V6 model and 4 banger. Just do one of two things. Give a eco boost v6 turbo with 350 HP or just give the 4 banger turbo. I don't see any point in having the V6 and 4 banger. I think the 4 banger will sell far more units than the V6 model and there just isn't a point to having both.

However I would guess that the 3.7V6 is established and cheaper to build for now and the 2.3 EB4 is more expensive initially so they build all three and eventually drop the 6.

The engine lineup is similar to the Fusion offerings. A base NA motor, then two uplevel engines and trims. It'll be interesting to see how they package the Ecoboost and V6.
