What a fiasco getting the keys cut. My experience fully confirms my belief that Home Depot hires some of the most mentally deficient people. Even with the newest key-cutting technology, they refused to cut the keys because they weren't bought there & they didn't want to be responsible if they keys got ruined. Even after I insisted that I would not hold them liable, they still refused.

I had them cut by a great person at Ace Hardware who was willing to use the old technology & use his skill.

Now I just need some of them groovy stickers for the fob!

I went to a local locksmith and had no problem. I didn't bother with any home improvement stores.

I had mine cut at my local dealership. He was a little hesitant as well, since he said it was too long and it probably wouldn't work. Works fine though, and he cut it for free.

Wow... for free!? My dealership told me either cut and program ($250ish) or nothing. And then once they saw it wasn't a Ford key they said it would NOT work, at all. Even though I reassured them it would work, they said no. So I went a great Yelp reviewed locksmith around here and they cut and programmed it for me.

Oh! The reason I had to have them programmed is that my car only came with one key used.

I bought the stickers btw from that ebay guy everyone else used and they look terrible and do NOT stick well or even flat.

I programmed it myself since I have extra keys, so that wasn't an issue. It seems like most of them don't want to be responsible for ruining it. But I'd gladly sign a waiver...

That is a bummer. I've been meaning to order the stickers. Did you get the pony or the 5.0, and did you try the "adhesion promoter"?

When I got my flip key fob I went directly to a local locksmith because it seems is your best bet after reading this entire thread. Well the locksmith did it for me for $10.50 but he wasn't too happy about it. He gave me the "this is like bringing a hamburger to McDonalds" speech that was kind of uncomfortable and felt bad for the guy but hey…at least you made some money me.

I suppose it's his prerogative to refuse service. Are there more locksmiths in your town?

I don't agree with this logic by the way. First, he has it backwards; it's more like buying just the bun at McDonald's, taking it home and making a ham and cheese sandwich because they don't sell it there. Also, does he complain about everyone coming in and getting mechanical keys made without programming? My house key doesn't require programming, is he going to complain about that?

So he was mad because he didn't get to overcharge you for the key itself and programming? He charged you roughly $300/hr for labor...I think he made out ok. If that's not good enough for him, then I'd take my business elsewhere. No need to feel bad...

I guess so. I was kind surprise by his reaction but at the end of the day he did the work. If I have to do this again I'll take it to a different place and maybe just bring the metal piece.

I felt bad because looking it from his point of view the internet is ruining his business. I do like supporting local family businesses as much as I can when the difference is just a few dollars. In this case the saving is too much to pass up.

I'm not a locksmith, but if I were, and this was my shop, I'd do it for free if you told me where you got the key so cheap (eBay). Then I'd source my hardware from eBay, lower my price, and undercut my competition.

If as a consumer this cost me $45 to do myself, but I could walk in to the locksmith and have it done for $75 I wouldn't bother. He'd make $30 on that deal instead of $10.

Hey Everyone
So when i bought my 2013 GT Conv. i just got one key as the previous owner had misplaced rest of the keys. Of course dealership i bought the car from gave me good price on the car so i didnt bother to ask for rest of the keys for free (still have 20% disc. from that dealership).

Now, i need to have another set of key for my wife as she started driving my GT . What should i do:
- Buy flip key from ebay
- Get it cut out from local locksmith
- Program the key
Is this correct OR i have to buy the second set of keys from the dealership?

Please advice

Hans

You need two original OEM keys to program the flip key yourself otherwise you need to go to the dealer to have it programed.

I got my flip key in and have gotten the keyless entry part programmed and working fine but I just can't get the key to start the car. I've tried a bunch of times. Any ideas on what it could be? I've contacted the seller but havent heard back yet.

Dumb question...You're following the programming steps, and already have 2 other working keys that can start the car, right?
