Quality HID kit?
Quality HID kit?
I'm looking to swap out the stock halogen headlight assembly with a projector assembly (quite a few options, but prob going with the blackouts from American Muscle). Of course, a projector headlight without HIDs will not suffice for me so I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on a "quality" ~5000K kit.
In my mind, I find quality synonymous with Philips. Here's what I've learned. Philips DOES NOT directly make any HID kits -- only OEM HID for car manufacturers. The "Philips" kits on the market may have some Philips components, like bulbs and ballasts, but they're packaged by a third party. Another thing I've learned is that Philips licenses their name to other companies like in Asia, and those components aren't manufactured in Germany. The best bet is to find kits which list "light source" and whose bulbs have a red tint in the middle in the sphere.
Well, I need H9s to fit the projector housings, and I can't seem to find a good retailer selling the kit I want. Also, I'd love to find a 5000K kit, but it seems Philips only makes 4300K and 6000K.
I'm also eying the McCulloch kit -- I used it on an old car of mine in both low beams and fog lights, and was impressed. I hear Subaru and others use this brand for their OEM HIDs.
Anyone have any recommendations from personal experience or whatnot?
Sorry for the book, I like to be thorough

If you want plug and play HIDs (not recommended)....
I hear good things about HIDGuy.... but I use retrofitsource.com (Morimoto ballasts and bulbs)
As for as Philips... I believe they only come in the d2s, d3s, d4s sizes since that's OEM style.
