Incorrect, you should not be mounting the spare on the rear of a mustang.

I went to order the 17” x 5” mini steel spare wheel with tire kit for my 2012 base V6, part number: CR3Z-1K007-A. My Ford Dealer says they are currently available for $277.14, looks like the price is going up!

I grabbed a spare off of ebay for $150 shipped and a scissor jack from orielly for $20. Sold my goop kit for $20 bucks.

Deysha, I realize that this is an old thread and subject but I don't see the answer to the question, " Does CR3Z-1K007-A fit the 13-14 V6 performance package car? (Comes with the 255/40R19 tires with reference to special brake pads. Available info on difference in brakes on these cars is very sketchy. They are not the Brembo.) I checked with the dealer, their service department, and Ford Motors by email. Nobody seems to know anything.

It has the same brakes as the base V6.

That's what I thought, except they say that the pads are different. That shouldn't prevent the standard mini-spare from fitting but that seems to be the implications. I did find one perf package owner, on a review comment, say that the mini-spare fit his car. I just want to be sure before I go buy the kit. Deysha's reply didn't address the 19" perf Package wheels or the 13's and 14's.

Hi Diehard,

This kit is for 11s and 12s only. You can have your dealer find a spare that’s optioned for your vehicle. You will need to provide them with your VIN so they can find an exact fit.

My dealer didn't have a clue.
I ended up getting a different spare that fit just fine. Not sure which car it was made for but it's an 18" aluminum wheel with tire that comes pretty close to matching my 27" dia tire (255/40R18) which are mounted on 19" wheels.

I'm pretty sure that's the spare for late model non-Brembo GTs.

The subject kit at least now shows fitment for 12, 13 and 14 model year Mustang, but no info about performance packages. Click on "View compatible vehicles."

I had a similar experience with the dealer, but I had pretty low expectations because I was trying to price the jack and tools that my GT didn't come with (Track Pack). I knew I was in trouble when he asked for the VIN and then told me the car wasn't equipped with these tools (no kidding).

I bought a plug kit and scissor jack from Autozone then put both items in a soft sided Craftsman tool bag with some pliers and a breaker bar and socket. As long as the puncture isn't in the sidewall a plug will work fine and can be done on the side of the road. Our insurance policy covers roadside assistance if we shred a tire. I kept the tire mobility kit in place because I will need the compressor if I have a flat.

Not saying that a spare wouldn't be better but in 32 years of driving I have had to use a spare tire 3 times. For perspective, my 85 Mustang GT has its original spare tire and it has never been on the ground.

Regarding what spare to use, there are two considerations.

First is the diameter of the of the tire itself. Our cars are based around a 27-27.6" diameter tire and it doesn't matter if your car came with 17s, 18s or 19s. Don't believe me, go to the Tirerack and look up the stock tire sizes for the 17, 18, and 19 wheels that came on our cars. The outer diameter of the tires will fall within a range from 27-27.6"

The second issue is the size of the front brakes on your car. V6 mustangs have 12.4" front brakes and 17" wheels will fit over them. Mustang GTs have 13.2" front brakes and an 18" wheel at a minimum is required. If you installed 14" Brembos I believe you are out of luck for a spare unless a spare tire option is available for the Boss 302 or a Brembo package GT.

I'm planning on getting the 18" spare anyways. I can switch a rear tire to the front or throw a spacer on.

Get it!

We had a blowout in the 6'er last fall on the PA Turnpike @ 75+ mph.. The sidewall on the tire was destroyed and if I had not put the spare, jack, etc from my 08 into her 6'er we would of been stuck waiting on a tow. As it was it was a very, very long ride home, in the rain, at 50 mph, with the 4ways on.

I plan on getting CAA (AAA equivalent) when my coverage expires through Ford. i have NEVER waited more than 30-45 minutes for service (unless in the winter season)

best 80 bucks a year anyone could spend.
