2012 V6 Exhaust Mod Question
#21
Borlas are great and I've heard nothing but good things about them.
One reason I chose Flowmasters is due to the fact that they are black and conceal themselves under the car. only the tips are visible even when you look at them low. The tips are attractive also.
I was never a fan of mufflers peeking out from under the car.

The biggest thing with this, is how much does drone bother you? The lower end axle backs give a lot of drone. Flow masters are notorious for this. The reason for Borlas price is not just for the exterior sound. It's the look, and the fact that the cabin volume isn't overwhelming when you're cruising. I would wait a little longer, save up the extra $$$ and go for the Borlas. They have 3 levels depending on your taste. The Touring, S-type (stingers), and ATAK. They are all made specifically for the 3.7l in your car. Touring is a bit tame for my taste, but one of my buddies has them and loves them. The Stingers are an all around favorite among members here on this forum. The ATAKs are not for the feint of heart, and will make you smile every time you brush against the throttle. They are insane! But very loud!
The choice is ultimately yours. I personally follow the philosophy of paying for quality. You get what you pay for. No doubt.
Good luck, and I look forward to seeing what you end up going with!

Thinking of trying something different
I'm gonna go with the magnaflow cat-back system. The problem is I don't ever plan on installing longtubes or short ones and was wondering if the BBK x-pipe with high flow cats would be a good option? Does anyone else run this set-up or have the BBK? I don't want to delete the cats b/c I'm trying to go overseas and take my Stang with me. No cats is a huge no-no during inspection over there.

I went with borla S-Type cat back exhaust with Ford Racing after cat clamp on x pipe. When it was first installed it had a nice muscular sound. After a 1,000 miles later, it somehow aged to a mean menacing scary-like sound. I don't know what attributed to the deep change in tone, but I like it.

No you don't. I just order the magnaflow street cat-back. I needed something quiet b/c in the coming months I will add shorty headers and bbk x pipe with hi flow cats so that will make it considerably louder. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Haven't heard of anyone else running this setup yet.

Nothing against welding. i hear its the better way to go. I didn't want to weld because I may want to replace the catalytic converters with short or long tube headers later if I ever move out of California. It's illegal to mess with the cats here living in LA. Then I could sell xpipe and catback later. Plus, it costs more to weld them since I'm no welder.

Hey would any of you guys in SoCal mind meeting up somewhere so i can listen to your exhaust? Im also undecided on which exhaust to get, and same as the OP, watching tons of videos doesnt really help.. They all start sounding the same lol. Ive never heard any v6 with exhaust ao i have no idea what they sound like. So leaning towards borla touring or s-type, or FRPP just based off what others say.
Anyone near LA willing to help?

This video is hilarious! An "engineer" doing his own Borla Atak install. It is long but it starts to get funny at about 10 to 12 minutes
I have to give him a lot of credit though, he did post it. He is a good sport. I thank him for teaching me what not to do.
