SPANKED by Camaro 1LE- need tire and suspension prescription to keep up
I think with the equipment listed on the Z28. I really think its gonna give the Porsche and Godzilla a run for its money. The ZL1 has proven pretty capable on the road course...the Z28 takes that up a few notches, better brakes, better shocks, better suspension, 305 R compound tires on all 4 corners and dropped 300 pounds. On paper it's gonna be a rocket
i thought that was the SRT Viper now not the Dodge Viper anymore? if they can shed the weight from the current Challenger, I think that would help them a lot or is it set to be on a whole different platform?
I don't really blame GM for what it's going to be priced at. They are giving the die hard z28 guys everything they asked for. Those guys should know a 40,000+ SS with a 15,000 engine, 2,500 seats and 7,000 brakes isn't going to be 47,000-48,000 they are throwing out on Camaro 5.
And I don't think it's aimed at any of the pony cars....this thing on paper is gonna be Porsche GT2 maybe even GTR fast.

Complete list of results. ZL1 is only 4.5 seconds behind the GT-R, and 2.5 seconds behind the GT3 RS. and the ZL1 was on regular street tires. I don't believe my statement is anywhere near far fetched. They never tested the GT2 at VIR

With that said, I commend them for putting out this effort. If it sells well, then good for them. I just can not see me paying the rumored price point for a pony car. I really don't think that is what a pony car was meant to be, but I could see this Z/28 being their answer to the Boss 302 LS. More hp/tq over the SS... lighter weight(I would think) than the SS... improved brakes over SS... grippier tires than the SS... less creature comforts than the SS...

A complete list of results? Data compiled from a mag on one track, at different times/weather conditions, driven by multiple drivers? It can be helpful data, but that is not enough... So what are you trying to say? These other cars were shod with track-spec tires during these laps, where as the ZL1 wore regular street tires?

And no I wouldn't pay 70,000+ for any pony car. It's their attempt to counter the Boss LS but at over 20,000 more
And the timed fastest laps were Randy Pobst's times.
No, but it gives a pretty good idea of where a car performs. Most of the cars were run on street tires. There were a couple that were run on r-compound tires and they list them. I'm saying that the z28 with r-compound tires is gonna post better times than the zl1.

Seems like GM is really living on track times as of late. But really, does the average pony car buyer care if its .5 secs faster at laguna seca? I know I don't. Much like vinny diesel, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time".

I'm still trying to figure out if the Z/28 would drive any better or faster around a track compared with the ZL1. I like the diversity, but it seems to me these two are so close in the same line-up...?
But again who cares, the only people they want a "serious" track car, arnt gonna consider a lowly camaro.

The 2013 corvette grand sport is 61k and is very competitive out of the box. And im thinking that the new stingray that will be coming out will probably match the grand sport's performance. There's no way id pick a camaro over that new corvette.
As dtated before the corvette is a much better performer for the same money as the z28. Why Chevy priced it to where it competes with vette sales is beyond me. If it was priced closer to the zl1 that would be better.
An even better thing would be that the zl1 is more focused on straight line with decent handling (like the gt500) while the z28 is the track animal that can hold its own in a straight line battle (like the Boss models).
This wouldve been more logical, and the main reason Ford has been so successful with the mustang for the past couple years. Theres a different car for everyone all at affordable prices with HUGE aftermarket support. The camaro is priced just a shade too high
