SPANKED by Camaro 1LE- need tire and suspension prescription to keep up
Did you guys see the Motor Trend article where the GT Track Pack gets b1tchslapped by the only slightly more pricey Camaro 1LE?
So we dont have the benefit of those amazing magnetic shocks...but what would it take to keep up with one on a road course, given the same driver? http://m.motortrend.com/roadtests/co...k/viewall.html |
You could that 4-5k difference and bridge the gap. Still for my taste they can have their better lap times, I bet it rides like **** and the car itself looks ricer inspired; oh cool it's a SS blacked out.
|
Of course it won. That yellow Camaro turns into Bumblebee.
|
take rag reviews w/ a grain of salt.
That is all. |
At what point does the Stang get "b1tchslapped"? Is this the same magazine that put the ZL1 against the Boss when it first came out and claim a Chevy win?
|
Every track is different. I think the 1LE will out handle a GT with track pack. All you have to do is look at the GT500 vs ZL1. Every time the ZL1 beats the GT500 at a track the bowtie crowd think their car is so grand and the GT500 can only go straight. But the ZL1 hasn't beaten the GT500 in any acceleration test, and has only beaten the GT500 in half the road course tests. You can add tires, shocks and springs for way less than the price difference and walk away

So how would you bridge the gap with that $5k? FWIW, the 1LE spanked even the Boss 302 Laguna Seca in the Car and Driver Lightning lap. |
Whelp dude trade your car and get an 1LE!

I won't lie before I ordered my gt500 I tested out an SS camaro and sat in a ZL1. I was open to either brand. I have zero brand loyalty. However the Zl1 looks good on the outside. The inside just made me laugh. I felt like I couldn't see enough outside of the car. There are not blind spots oh no. There are vision spots the rest is blind! The boost gauges etc. Being down at the shifter gave me a laugh. I asked "who the hell is going to look down there while driving"?. The dealer had no response except that it had a hud... The gauge clusters and steering wheel were not of my taste at all. The one thing I did like was the telescoping steering wheel column. That was it. The car looks big and feels larger once driving. Give me a GT mustang performance pack over that LE. Pass on the premium interior and throw a super charger on it probably a better suspension as well. Then see how it stands up :).
In the end I do believe the camaro 1le and zl1 are great cars. I am sure there are people who love them. However at any price range I personally would take the Mustang! I look forward to spanking some camaros when my gt500 gets in. ;) |

I think we all prefer the Mustang to the Camaro. I'd like to have a car that made up the obvious performance disadvantage. |

I'd like to have a car that made up the obvious performance disadvantage. 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE: Best Handling Camaro Ever! - Ignition Episode 48 - YouTube Let's be real here for a second. The "disadvantage" is mainly on paper using non real life driving conditions. I have owned both cars (2011 Camaro 2LT/RS) (2013 Mustang GT/CS) and performance aside, the Mustang is a FAR superior daily driving car. HUD and telescoping steering column would be nice and I miss those, but the visibility problems and just overall driving feel of the Camaro are a far bigger disadvantage when you are doing real world driving. I simply always felt "blind" in the Camaro - HUGE C pillar blind spots, Passenger Side A pillar blind spot, etc. |
The 1LE doesn't have the magnetorheological shocks only the ZL1 has those

It's still missing one thing...the Bumblebee sticker's all around! Anywho, its nice and all but i'll keep mine!

If only ford had some tax payers money to throw at a few magazines. Brembo GT went from pushing m3's to being crap. Different day I guess.

They have to sell magazines, people. Another article pitting a newly packaged car against another. Kudos to Chevy for the improvements... took them long enough!
I'll give Motor Trend a pass, but please don't mention C&D again... EVER!!! I don't think I need to explain why. This Camaro 1LE can only dream of touching a Boss 302. And edging out the GT with Track Package by that margin should tell you just how good the Mustang really is... it's that good! What Ford calls a track package for the Mustang GT is no different than a 2011-2012 Brembo Brake Package car with a few components sourced from the Boss 302(radiator, oil pan, oil cooler, PFC rear pads, 5W-50 synthetic oil, & Recaros). There are no upgraded suspension components or bigger tires. A package for the consumer who wants to take their ride out for the occasional track day, but wants a few features that you can't get with the true Track Package... the Boss 302. We can do the same thing by putting some nicely selected parts on our rides and the 1LE advantage is a moot point, again! Some of us already have... Heck, present SS owners could do the same! It's not like they put the Magna-ride suspension on it. They wouldn't dare do that at the same price-point. |

This statement makes pure sense! |
I thought the Track Pack sway bars were slightly bigger than the regular GT swaybars? Somewhere between standard GT and Boss 302 size. I was at the dealer tonight and I'm pretty sure that's the case. Does anyone know if the Brembo-only cars have the same swaybars as the Track Pack cars...or are the Brembo-only cars equipped with the standard GT sway bars?
