SPANKED by Camaro 1LE- need tire and suspension prescription to keep up
lol. so what you are saying is that the 2004 cobra is a response to the 1998 SS camaro?
Ford has always led segments and chevy competes/responds with HP/performance.
It's a business philosophy. investment and return. Constantly responding to a competitor will ruin a company.
Ford used the small block without changes from 1962-1995. same heads, same block, etc. then ford replaced it with a low torque 215hp 4.6.
The one year wonders are for internetz folks to point out how bad-a## mustangs were from 1994-2010. 2004 cobra being the only year that is true.
ive HAD to build mustangs to beat camaros.....camaro owners got their from the showroom.
i have owned a few.
1980 302 stang, 1983 notch 302 roller/nitrous, 1996 big turbo 4v, 2011 gt.

I love seeing hotrods in movies, especially when they dont get smashed...which is almost never, sadly.
The more Camaros GM sells, the better. It pushes Ford and Chrysler to work harder.

I don't think they need the push (well maybe Chrysler). Ford will keep making and improving the Mustang w/ or w/o Chevy being there.
The difference has been price, up to a few years ago. Yeah the mustang didn't perform as well but a loaded GT was 10k less than a loaded SS; hell even the pre-term cobras were 4-5k cheaper. Clearly ford wanted to "sell" cars rather than win some imaginary race. Guess why the all mighty camaro had to stop production in 02??
I can rememeber, for a couple of DECADES, pleading with Ford for a powertrain that will compete motor-on-motor against chevy.
the brand new 6.2 LT1 = 460hp, 5.0 boss = 444.
... and the Boss 302's have upgraded tires and suspension components over the GT variants, plus that motor!
Are you a Ford fan?!?! You've got a Ford avatar but maybe a camaro (spelled that way on purpose cause it deserves it) in the closet?!? FORD FAN
Pony car segment has always been about one-upsmanship. GM knows that Ford is pretty much cooling their jets on the Mustang until the 2015 is released (especially with no Boss302). Perfect timing to release the 1LE so they can say they've got the fastest pony car (excluding GT500/ZL1). That Motor Trend article will sell Camaros just like the 5.0 vs M3 article sold Mustangs.
The Bullitt and GT500 (and Boss) aren't really improvements, they are special models with the express purpose of keeping people interested in the brand.
The new 5.0, the retuned suspension, improved interior, two fairly short styling cycles - those were improvements implemented to help shore up flagging sales compared to the F-body.

Anyways, the Bullitt might have been basis for the 2010 suspension but I doubt it was part of some sort of evolutionary program

"Developed under the code name Coyote, the new 5.0 was conceived in 2007 to replace the 4.6 and 5.4 Modular V-8s, which were approaching the end of their development. Ford needed a Mustang GT engine to compete against the new Chevy and Dodge efforts"
Bullitt was first production to use the CAI from Ford. Also has the adaptive fuel management. And the upgraded suspension pieces. And the 5.0 development was started after the Gen 5 Camaro was announced and slated for production.
