SPANKED by Camaro 1LE- need tire and suspension prescription to keep up
spanked
Back in the day [the 70's] the magazines praised the Z28's over the Boss, can tell you My 70 Boss spanked every Z28 it ever came up against and even to this day my long time friends that are die hard chevy fans, that had Z28's will testify to that, don't believe all you read or see, just think how good it will feel when you put the driver into the equation and beat them. Cars are a lot of money, if you want a camaro buy that, I'll stick with my proven stangs any day for the better all around car
Third paragraph of this article:
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...e/viewall.html
"Developed under the code name Coyote, the new 5.0 was conceived in 2007 to replace the 4.6 and 5.4 Modular V-8s, which were approaching the end of their development. Ford needed a Mustang GT engine to compete against the new Chevy and Dodge efforts"

Bottom line to me is Ford has proven they improve the breed w/ or w/o competition there. Does it provide a little extra incentive? Sure. But there's no way in hell I'm gonna sit here and say, "Thanks Chevy for making the Camaro. You're making Ford make a better Mustang!" Not at least until they give me my bailout money back. I'd rather it be extinct, the Mustang sell even more, and have more development dollars available for an even better product.
Last time I checked Ford made some pretty awesome Ponies from 2003-2009.
Like the other poster said other aspects of the Bullitt trickled down into the newer GTs. Those cars definitely weren't just to increase interest.
To me the part I bolded is more telling. Those motors were near the end of their cycle regardless. It was time to move on. CAFE regulations probably had a lot to do with it as well.

Yep..Chevy had what 8 years to develop a Camaro. And that's the best they could do. It was barely outrunning the 2010's when it came out. And the magazines own comments about the Camaro show the magazines are biased. They all complain about the visibility, the seats and the gauges and interior. Yet they say the Camaro is easier to live with. Last I checked being able to see where I'm going and read my gauges was more important than a little bouncier ride in the mustang
So, I guess what you are trying to say is that Ford is an originator... starts a segment and Chevy follows on their coat-tails? That maybe the case.
And is it just me or is there evidence that '11-'13 Mustang GT's are putting more horsepower to the ground than an SS/1LE? It could be the weight difference, but after all the 1LE improvements/advantages in wheel/tire size and exhaust modification they crossed the 1/4 mile mark in the same time.

It's the weight IMO.
I don't understand what you are disputing... I know what the '11-'12 GT's were equipped with. It was called the Brembo Brake Package. I'm sure my comment is in regards to the "Track Package" moniker for the '13 where they come with the welcome additions of improved radiator, oil cooler, torsen diff, etc. No further changes seem to be done to the suspension or tires. It's the same as the Brembo Brake cars from '11-'12. As good as the Ford Engineers were able to extract performance from those components, the dampers could still be improved.
... and the Boss 302's have upgraded tires and suspension components over the GT variants, plus that motor!

Yes, that is correct.
I have owned both cars (2011 Camaro 2LT/RS) (2013 Mustang GT/CS) and performance aside, the Mustang is a FAR superior daily driving car.
HUD and telescoping steering column would be nice and I miss those, but the visibility problems and just overall driving feel of the Camaro are a far bigger disadvantage when you are doing real world driving. I simply always felt "blind" in the Camaro - HUGE C pillar blind spots, Passenger Side A pillar blind spot, etc.

4th gen actually, 3rd gen's last year of production was 92 and the 4th gen was 02.

I haven't seen where the brakes are big issue except on the GT500 due to both its weight and ability to build some serious speed in a short space.

Hmm.. dont know what I was thinking? Perhaps it was my love to hate it affair with a old roommates 3rd gen - me and that car never got along, still running though, I just saw it yesterday when her dad came driving up to work with it. Typical 80's GM car, paint and interior gone to hell with leaky T- tops.
Well its almost a 10 year old car designed around 27" OD tires and a live rear end with floating axles, the former limiting swept area on the brakes and the latter preventing the installation of a fixed caliper.

There just isn't enough room to put the turkey platters slapped on the Camaro's hubs. Ford maybe could have squeezed a 20" wheel in there but the ride and reliability would have suffered and it would have been too cost prohibitive to modify the bodywork to fit larger wheels (the greenhouse has remained unchanged since the cars debut) and still retain sensible proportions.
It is what it is, a 10 year old car that's reached the end of its life cycle and taken about as far as it can go.
Same size Brembos on the GT500 As the Camaro ZL1...brakes are just fine for 99% only issues have shown up under road race conditions and that's cured with fluid and pad swap. He talks about loving the Gen 3 Camaro but then calls the GT500 brakes garbage? That's pretty comical

Yes...switch to DOT 4 and Brembos become an entirely new animal. Pads take it another step more. Steel lines even more. But...should be available (at least as an option) from FoMoCo, IMO.

the termi looked awesome and the new gt500 looks awesome also but i don't car for how you sit in it the gt500 tire width (as bad as the gto had
) and i like road racing and curvy roads because you get more time than in a 1/4 and more of a rush! just personal preference

Gt500 comes with Brembos stock so did the Boss. Only an option on the GT. You need to stick to your brake shoes on your Camaro. There aren't any $5000 options on any mustang. It's funny how you Camaro guys can't beat a mustang in the 1/4 mile, now all of a sudden you are all about turns. Hate to burst your bubble, but the crappy GT500 has beat your ZL1 in half of the road course tests too.
