Boss 302 Side Exhaust Install/Discussion
This is for those of you who have this system in place. Currently, I have the svt axle back in my car. I like it because it's not crazy like the slp loudmouths I had on my 2005 gt. But on the other hand, a little crazy would be nice. Can you really hear this when in the car.
I really like the sound of my car when someone, like the wife or mechanic at ford pulls away in it. But, inside it's too subdued. I don't want to wake the neighbors when leaving quietly in the morning. But, I want a little more baritone inside the car when I get on it.
Ultimately I can't decide on next mod, but some intel might help. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Can anyone else provide some insight?

Loud and deep but not obnoxious or annoying. Not as loud as the SLP Loudmouths ( I had them on my '05 also) but more classy if you know what I mean. This is about the best I can describe it Eric, other than to say I'm very happy with it.

I couldn't be happier with my results worth every penny. The sound is classic not obnoxious. There's a big difference there. Think of the chase scene in Bullit and the sounds those cars were making.
The combination of a good axelback and the quad exhaust is amazing its such a refined deep rumble on acceleration and deceleration no popping or raspiness the wide open quad exhaust relieves the back pressure you can hear it on deceleration a very deep low grumble like on an old school Mustang

This may also be my next mod, but like you, I'm a little bit afraid of it being too loud.

"The sidepipe's rolled over or turned-down tip is there to aim sound energy down to the pavement, where it reflects back up to be heard by the car's occupants and not so much by the pass-by microphone used in certification tests. A straight tip designed for viewing from outside the car was tried, but proved to be too loud to certify."
I went back and found it in the August 2011 issue of 5.0 Magazine. It's a photo caption on page 62.

I believe the tips are polished 304 SS with the bulk of the remainder being 409 SS.
Convertible owners...yes, FRPP should be including the requisite hardware to allow you to fit the system to your cars. I recently put together a system for a ragtop owner and as much as it was for a '11 GT500, the hardware that is needed to fasten the exhaust tip is the same. In order to clear the additional structural bracing affixed to the underside of the chassis on '11 and later S197 convertibles you'll need a M10 1.50 x 70mm bolt, 2 flat washers, and a 1 inch spacer for each side. This will space the tip down and allow 3/16" to 1/4" of clearance - just what you need.

The owner installed the system onto his well modified GT500 and he is very happy to say the least. His comments regarding the sound mirror much of what has been posted above. It really enhances the aural experience whether you had a stock or modified exhaust system to begin with. If any of you GT500 owners are interested in what it took, I started with the stock Boss 302 'H' section...

And after reconfiguring via cutting/TIG welding in some 409SS tubing I ended up with this...

The owner then took the pipe I reworked and used it as a template to show him where to cut his existing system so that he could clamp (using factory OEM clamps) the new section in...

Here it is loosely fit in before any of the clamps were tightened. Once torqued, the system pulls together tight, straight, and leak free...

A great mod. He runs his system without any attenuation plates and so do I.

Well I went ahead and did it. I order the quad exhaust last night. I tried to order the QTP QTEC302 kit, but the site is down for system upgrades. Hopefully the site will be up later this week so I can get those ordered and do the install next week when Im off from work.

I detected a notiable seat of the pants improvement....but that very well could be plecebo because it sounds so kick-*** now.

It does wonders for the driving experience...raw, hardcore V8 roar with no echo-ey, resonating nonsense that a lot of exhaust systems introduce. Its the loudest "non-obnoxious" exhaust system out there, IMO. It makes rev matching easier (and more rewarding) too.

Has anyone heard how the SideBurners from Stainlees Works sound or compare to the Boss Setup?
