Steeda Sport Springs Question

Hey guys,

I was wondering if a set of shocks and struts are NEEDED when you install a set of the Steeda Sport Springs, part #555-8216. I use my car as a daily driver only. No racing or anything like that. What are your thoughts? I appreciate any and all input!

Thanks guys!

From experience, I would say the Roush extreme lowering springs are great for a daily driver . They are designed to work with the stock dampers. I found Steedas harsher when I had them on my 05.

Thanks for the input. That is what I was originally leaning towards, but I found a set of Steeda Sports that were extremely cheap, but I didn't want to have to pay for a set of shocks and struts since I wasn't ready. I will probably still go with the Roush Extremes since I know they will be okay with the stock shocks and struts.

Thanks!

My car is daily driven too and I'm running the FRPP springs (1.5" drop) with the stock shocks and struts. I will eventually upgrade them. To be honest if you can get the shocks and struts at the same time go for it. Otherwise you'll be fine with the stockers for some time.

Mustang Enthusiast actually did a story using my car in last months issue. They installed the steeda springs, J&M upper and lower control arms and panhard bar... the car runs fine on the stock springs and shocks...

Check out this story 5.0 did on my stang for last months issue...

Actually this install was completed last aug.... Car is currently at Kenne Bell out here in Rancho California getting test fitted for their new 2010 2.6L intercooled supercharger. They've had it for about 3 weeks now, how to get it back by next week. I will post the numbers and pictures ASAP[IMG][/IMG]
You might as well. Everything will be taken apart and you will need an alignment, so getting the S/S done at the same time will save you money in the long run. Make sure the S/S you get match up with the spring rate though!

If you are worried about ride quality the Ultra-lite Sport springs are the way to go. A quick search here and you should be able to find plenty of good feedback on Ultra-lite Sport Springs. These will also be find with the stock shocks and struts

There is not enough rebound damping in the stock shocks/struts to effectively control springs with a higher rate than stock (and they hardly do that). Higher rate spring necessitate shocks with more damping. And if you are running larger wheels/tires an increase in damping is needed even more.

That is of course if you want to do it right.

Suspension newbie here.....

My 05 is a semi-daily driver as well. I want to lower it to get rid of some of the 4x4 look, no racing or anything. I was considering the Steeda Sports and GT500 mounts and upgrading to the Koni Yellows maybe next spring. How do I verify the Koni Yellows will be correct for the spring rate of the Steeda Sports, or whichever springs I choose?

The yellows are a good match for the Sport springs. I would advise to do it all at the same time. Even if you're doing it yourself. If your car is an '05, I'm sure it has some miles on the struts and shocks that are on there. In fact if you're going to do one before the other, do the Koni's first.

Thanks, we've already emailed each other a few times. I'm just waiting to build up a monetary surplus at the moment.

That and deciding how much to realistically drop due to road conditions here in ole NWPA

^ +1 this.
The OEM struts/shocks are tuned for the OEM spring rates. If you chance the spring rates, the struts/shocks will not perform properly, and might possibly fail, over time. Best to do all at once, if possible.

It is best to match your shocks/struts to the springs you are using. It is also cheaper/easier to change them at the same time since the additional labor is minimal. The sport springs work well on my 2011 with the Koni Strt's. Just buy them from #TJ@Steeda during the annual Koni sale. He gave me a better price than I could get ordering online through their website.

The Pro Actions are a great alternative to the Konis & we always have a code we can use

The Konis are on sale at different times throughout the year - keep checking back!

I run Steeda sport springs, with GT500 mounts and Koni yellow struts and shocks.
Good for daily driving with shocks and struts on soft setting, and great on the track when firmed up!
I highly recommend this combo
