2013 GT500 Leaked Info

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...er-future_cars

600+ HP

Maybe including launch control and possible cosmetic changes making it look more edgy. I'm a little unsure about changing the look since 2014 is going to be a whole new model.

They had better widen those rear tires and put some better rubber around the rims on all 4.

No doubt, they really were fine with the power but needed to work on being able to put it to the ground.

Wow, gunna be kickass. I hope it really gets some sort of launch control, kind of like what the GTR has.. If they do that, then I think it can REALLY compete with the ZL1.. ..At this point I think they should begin calling it the GT600. Haha.

IRS would be nice too.

Wonder if a NA version of this bored 5.8L might make it into a Mach 1 Special Edition?

Not that a bit more power is ever not welcome, but isn't this gilding the lily a bit, or just getting into a myopic hp/pissing match with Chevy?

It's not that the GT500 doesn't already have a freighter-load of horsepower that is already getting a bit tricky to actually use effectively. Outside of the narrow confines of a drag strip, though, and I think the extra hp will likely end up being useful for little more than bench racing bragging rights.

0-60 numbers have probably already effectively plateaued with anything short of drag slicks and even significantly better 1/4 mile times may be minimal except with the very best drivers and conditions.

Anyways, great to have more power, but perhaps Ford should concentrate more on the GT500's weaknesses rather than its already formidable strengths.

Read the article carefully and the timeline looks close to two years for the car they are talking about (11 months plus 10 months). I wonder if this is the 2014 model...which would make sense given the styling update they also mention. I can't see Ford doing many cosmetic/body updates for model year 2013 with the supposed 50th anniversary changes coming in model year 2014.

Shakespeare? I guess the GT500 is worthy of such epic quotation comparisons.

I agree. The ZL1 will be out next Feb. 10 months after that is Jan 2013. Either Ford will do a minor upgrade for 2 years bring in the next gen Mustang in 2015 or this is the next gen 2014 model.

I would doubt it would be the actual next gen model, not while still holding on to the 5.4/5.8 Mod motor. My guess is that it would be the current model and motor going out in a blaze of glory rather than sulking out under the shadows of the Camaro ZL-1.

I would expect the next gen GT500, or whatever they'll call the alpha-stallion, to have a much more efficient twin turbo 5.0 motor of similar power but less weight, pollution and consumption, all in a car that's at least 200 lbs lighter and with much improved ride/handling dynamics.

This is for 13MY, not the next-gen. The C&D article makes that pretty clear. Seems to go nicely with those rumors of a refresh in '13 as well, doesn't it?

If there is a MY2013 refresh...it will be minor (and on some models moreso then others) ...LED Headlights...LED Running Lights...Bumper Trim front and rear and tweaks to the chassis...don't expect a reworked taillight treatment...MY2013 is the Shelby's year (maybe last) so that car will get most of the attention...but the MY2014 will be all new (50th Year of Production) and ready to see at NAIAS 2013 and a NY (East Coast) Debut at Flushing Meadow, Queens. The new car will sell March/April 2013. Bye Bye Camaro...even though it will be on the Alpha Chassis in 2014/15 the car will be where the Mustang is now in terms of weight...

Why not just use the 6.2 from the raptor? Leave it NA and call it a Mach. It can be the street bruiser with all the bells and whistles while the Boss performs at the track. Everybody wins!

Wrong. You're still hung up on this 2014 crap. The 50th anniversary date will be important, but your info is off.

Can a mod merge the two threads on this topic?
