"Of special note is the 2.66 1st gear that, with the 3.31 final drive, will get the GT500 to about 62 mph at 7000 rpm. So a dramatic 0–60 improvement is expected, and combined with an extra 100 horsepower the quarter-mile time could likely drop by a half second. Sixth gear remains optimal for cruising, and the team hopes to maintain the car’s fuel efficiency and avoid the gas-guzzler tax."

LOL. Why is it that ford always seems a year behind in the horsepower? Chevy had in the works for a 2012 camaro ZL1 and then for 2013 ford releases its GT500 with so much power... Do they not realize that, that gives chevy ammo or a goal to shoot for in one year? For 2012 the camaro is still the car to beat STOCK VS STOCK in this war. Not a 2012 vs 2013 or a 2011 vs 2012 or however these magazines compare them. I am tired of different year comparisons. Do a straight up base camaro and mustang NON-PAID for or BIAS run on them both, then the same for the top of the line camaro and mustang out of the FORD or CHEVY factory and lets see who wins. That means Shelby Mustangs are out. If they were in, that means Hennessy camaro would beat it hands down EVERY time. So factory built only cars, and guess what... camaro wins. No matter what you say a shelby mustang is NOT FORD BUILT. It is SHELBY factory built. The camaro ZL1 is CHEVY/GM built. Let the bashing and stupid talk BEGIN!!!!!!!

Camaro5 is full of people in denial and making excuses right now.
They are starting to sound like m3 owners talking about how the ZL1 is more "sophisticated" lol they have nothing left!
they are saying the GT500 won't get traction so the ZL1 will still beat it, can you believe these blind fools? lol

I think getting rid of the PP stripes is a great idea or perhaps keep it as an option. I know it sounds silly but if I was buying a 2012 GT500 the PP would be a no go because the thin stripes are a deal breaker for me.
How many 2011-2012 GT500 owners looking to trade in for a 2013? I like the idea of a 650HP GT500 but I would "settle" for a 550HP GT500!

Doubt it would actually happen, but with Ford's new found development and product vigor these days, I wouldn't completely rule it out either. Compare this with a decade ago when coming out with anything more substantive than a cheesy tape-stripe and faux scoop package seemed akin to giving birth to a bowling ball. Now they're tossing out thoroughly revamped packages with nonchalance pretty much annually. Amazing.

I was thinking the same thing, plunking a naturally aspirated version of this motor into a tarted up Stang for a S197 swan song before the '15 redo comes out. Make it very drag-strip oriented as opposed to the more rounded, road and track ready Boss 302.

Hey, wait a minute the 2003-04 Mach1 was more than a tape-stripe package... It was a pretty good mid level V8 to send off the 4th gen car...sorry if you were not refering to the Mach1 but that was about 10yrs ago

Why not get a stripe delete and then add the wider stripes? Pretty easy solution.

It's going to be fun to watch the comparo's with the ZL1. Power wise it looks like the GT500 will mop the floor with it, but we'll still have to wait on how it lays down that power. Anyway it's going to be a fun battle!

Interesting how in one day the battle cry has gone from "The ZL1 is going to smoke the GT500" back to "Camaros are prettier".
