Exclamation You asked for it you got it....

GT500KR

Shelby Automobiles will be pre-title modifying an exclusive run of only 1000 2008 GT500KR’s “King of the Road”
The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the 2008 Mustang GT500KR was $79,995, including destination and delivery charges. That price is without Additional Dealer Markup.
The 540 Horsepower GT500KR will carry a full Ford Warranty

Shelby GT500KR features an estimated 540-hp 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 with a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short-throw shifter, and unique suspension tuning.

2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR “KING Of The ROAD” – Specifications and Design Highlights

• 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 producing an estimated 540-horsepower and 510 ft.-lbs. of torque
• Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack featuring revised calibration and cold air intake system
• 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
• Ford Racing performance exhaust system
• Unique performance suspension tuning: springs, dampers, and stabilizer bars
• Shelby-designed ‘GT500KR’ 20-inch wheels (18-inch version for production)
• Ford Racing short-throw shifter and front strut tower brace
• Unique carbon composite hood featuring classic Shelby ‘KR’ design
• Front brake cooling ducts
• ‘Shelby’ lettering across the front edge of hood and rear decklid
• 40th Anniversary badges on the front quarter panels
• Carroll Shelby signature embroidered headrests and floor mats
• Official Shelby CSM 40th Anniversary GT500KR dash plate

A remarkable amount of engineering went into upgrading the base GT500 to KR specs. That's a lot of work for a run of 1,571 vehicles (1,000 in the '08 model year, and 571 in the '09 model year, which equals the original run of GT500KRs).

"The KR is much more than just a great straight-line performer," says Jamal Hameedi, chief program engineer at Ford SVT. "It's the complete package-handling, power, and performance. The team put the GT500KR through rigorous testing and have witnessed slalom runs with sustained lateral acceleration of 1.0 g on the skidpad. Those are world-class numbers."

GT500 Super Snake

Shelby Automobiles will be post-title modifying nearly any 2008 GT500 into a “Super Snake” package.
Shelby will transform consumer owned 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes for only US $27,995.00. That is in addition to the price of your GT500.

The 600 Horsepower GT500 Super Snake will carry a full Ford Warranty
The 725 Horsepower GT500 Super Snake will NOT carry a full Ford Warranty

Executives with Shelby Automobiles™ have announced that the company will transform consumer owned 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes for only US$27,995.00. Beginning in late summer of 2007, a limited number of GT500 owners can have this post-title package applied to their car at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas.

The Super Snake post-title package will include enhancements to the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power; tuning options will range from a warranted 600 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only a limited number of Super Snakes will be built per model year at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas beginning in late 2007.
The GT500 Super Snake package, which will be installed at the Shelby factory includes:

· Ford Racing Supercharger upgrade kit producing over 600 horsepower and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque; an optional 725 horsepower system is available
· 6-speed manual transmission with a Ford Racing short-throw shifter and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
· Borla performance exhaust system for the 600 horsepower version; JBA manifold and back system for the 725 horsepower option
· Engine dress up kit including billet aluminum fluid caps and dip stick handle
· Ford Racing suspension tuning including dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace
· Exclusive Shelby- Alcoa 20-inch forged wheels with Super Snake center caps
· Shelby / Baer 6 piston forged front brakes calipers with cross drilled and vented rotors all around
· Front and rear brake cooling ducts
· Side scoops, carbon fiber front fascia splitter, mirror covers and rocker panels
· Classic Shelby design hood with functional scoops
· Super Snake exclusive striping
· ‘Shelby’ lettering across the rear deck lid and 'Super Snake' badges
· Center cluster with Carroll Shelby signature gauges for boost, fuel pressure and oil pressure
· Shelby embroidered headrests, Super Snake door sill plates, aluminum map light accent, floor mats and other exclusive components
· Official Shelby CSM dash plate

And since Ford will be offering up only 1000 GT500 KR models, this is a chance to have that kind of exclusivity with a touch more power —

Thanks Black GT500. Seems like the Super Snake is a much better deal imo! But the KR might be worth more later...

$30,000 to modify my GT500?

My thought process...

Leave my GT500 as it is. It is FUN AS HELL to drive.

For that $30,000 I can buy another used low mile Mustang GT, let someone else pay that depreciation. Pick up a nice clean low mile 2005/2006 GT and do a forged internals engine, twin screw supercharge it, or maybe twin turbos, upgrade the suspension and have a separate second Mustang GT in addition to my GT500 for the cost of the super snake package.

With this route, I wouldn't feel bad about flogging the hell out of my 600+ horsepower Mustang GT...

Mind you, I do drive my GT500 hard, I just do not flog the hell out of it, and don't really want to.

For $30,000 you could probably pick up another new Bullitt. I've seen them on eBay listed for that and less with no reserve. That might be a better starting platform for modification.

Yeah easily, probably less than $30,000.

But... If I were going to pay $30,000 for a another Bullitt, to add forced induction, etc, I would have to seriously consider buying another new or slightly used GT500...

I was thinking the about $30,000 total for a fairly complete forced induction GT. I have been seeing 05 GT's with 10,000 - 40,000 miles for $16,000 - $20,000. That price leaves plenty of cash for the forced induction, engine and suspension modifications.

Anyway, it is all just pipe dreams for the time being, I have a few big dollar items on the list ahead of a second "toy" Mustang...

Why would a Bullitt be a better platform? There's minor difference between the stock GT and Bullitt. IMO your paying for the "name" and color option. Other then that you can't beat the platform the GT give you

The Bullitt is vastly more than a NAME and GREEN Paint

The Bullitt is vastly more than a name and GREEN Paint.

2008 Stock Bullitt best published (Motor Trend) time 0-60 5.0 seconds ¼ mile 13.7 seconds and 102.7 MPH
315 horsepower @ 6,000 RPM
325 lb-ft torque @ 4,250 RPM

Besides, Mine is BLACK not green.

The 2008 Mustang Bullitt delivers balanced performance,” said Paul Randle, chief engineer. “Comfort is not compromised for performance. Performance is on demand. You can easily take Bullitt from the track to the street and back onto the track with confidence.”

Engine calibration is designed to increase throttle response for a snappier acceleration feel. The redline has been boosted by 250 rpm to 6,500, with top-end speed bumped to 151 miles-per-hour.

Engine performance is further enhanced through the use of an innovative adaptive spark ignition system, new for 2008.

The system can sense, within a few seconds, what type of fuel is being injected into the motor and adjusts the spark to provide maximum torque at any given speed – and as much as 10 pounds-feet more between 1,000 and 4,000 rpm.

Bullitt can run on either premium or regular fuel. Ford recommends premium fuel for optimum performance, but the adaptive spark ignition will adjust the spark to burn regular fuel without damaging the engine.

The car features the first use of an open-element air filter in a factory-produced, fuel-injected Mustang. Inspired by Ford Racing, the intake is tucked neatly behind the driver side headlamp, mounted in an air box that was tooled up specifically for the Mustang. The hood liner was extensively modified to provide a full seal to the air box, ensuring that the engine is fed a steady diet of cooler air.

The new cold-air intake has shown a reduction in rise over ambient temperature from 50 degrees down to 17 degrees Fahrenheit.

The brakes also have been improved versus the base Mustang GT’s. More aggressive front pads were developed specifically for Bullitt and improve fade resistance and pedal feel.

The Dark Argent Gray spokes feature a satin finish, while a bright-machined lip completes the look. Calipers are colored to match the wheel. The wheels are wrapped in the same P235/50ZR 18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS tires used on Mustangs at the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

The Bullitt package enhances the Mustang GT Premium package with the following:

* No Scoops, Badges or Spoilers (Bling Free)
* 3.73:1 Limited Slip Rear Axle with Bigger Bearings (same as used in the GT500KR)
* Ford Racing Power Pack (cold air induction system)

Our local dealer just got a KR in. It's not on the showroom floor yet but when it is I'll go get some pictures and see what the markup is.
