Key & Shifter stuck!

I have a 2005 Ford Mustang V6 Auto-matic. My key will not release from the ignition and my shifter will not come out of Park unless I push in the Shifter Bypass button. They both happened at the same time, so I'm assuming the problem is linked. The car starts, I push the Bypass button to shift to drive. I can go to Reverse without using the Bypass button but when I put it back into Park, I have to use the Shifter Bypass to switch it into gear again!
I've been trying to figure out how to fix this problem. I brought it to a local mechanic and he looked at it really quick without taking anything apart and told me I need a whole new Shifter that would be around $500-
I've been trying to search on the internet for other answers.. I found this Mustang Site and figured I'd give it a shot! I love my Mustang and I want to fix this problem! My speedometer and Gas Gauge isn't working anymore either but my priority is getting this stuck key and Shifter problem fixed first.
If anyone can give me some insight on this issue, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Mike Mustang

There should be a key release hole under your key on the bottom side of the column. You stick a screwdriver in there and hit the button and the key should come out.

check and see if your brake lights are working. some of the brake/shift interlock systems use a signal from the brake light switch to release the interlock. if the switch has gone bad, its not sending the signal needed.

(not sure if stangs are like this or not, but worth a shot)

If The Wheels Are Cocked Against Something It Will Jam Up Release Try Grabbing Steering Wheel and Rocking If This is The Case! If it's an Automatic and You Can Turn Key To Run, Put You Foot on the Brake and Run The Selector From Park to First a couple of Times and Firmly Put into Park and Try Key Removal again. If Not It Would Would Be Helpful if You Stated Exactly What Happened! Ignition Switch Itself Could Be Jamming Also. Removing Lock Cylinder & Checking to See if It Bound Up Or Not Can Help Determine Issue!

If Needed It's Pretty Easy to Remove Cylinder if It Still Turns To Run!
