Last weekend was the first time I had been in my car for about three weeks or so. I got in my car and set down , tried to shut the door, but it didn't feel right..... upon futher investigating i figured out that my battery was dead. So the window wouldn't roll down the 1/4", it was hitting to plastic trim when I would try to shut it. So I had to get out the charger and after 15 minutes or so I had her running and the window operated fine.
I'm not sure what made the battery discharge, proly something I left on I guess...... but I wonder what kind of problem this would have been if it had happened in the winter time, you can get the door open, but you can't shut the door.........

I have disconnected the battery a number of times to install various things on my car, and I know what you mean about the doors not shutting right. But, you can shut the door all the way with the battery disconnected... or in your case dead. Just don't slam the door. Shut it gently, allowing some air to escape out of the car as your closing it. And if it doesn't close all the way, just bump it with your butt (if you are outside) or grab the door handle and pull hard (if you are inside).

So your window goes underneth the plastic trim when you gentle shut it? Or are you saying that the door will latch with the window on the outside of the trim? It looks like to me that the window has to drop down for it close without bowing it.

I can't remember exactly... I'd have to go out now and disconnect the battery to find out. And it's 40 degrees... yes in south Louisiana. Carroll Shelby could be outside and I'd have to actually think about whether or not I wanted to go outside. As far as I remember though, the window does go under the trim. You might have to push the top of the window in to get it under the trim, but I know for a fact that you can shut the door completely with the battery off. Not saying it's as easy with the battery on, but it's definitely possible.

Ok, it maybe possible. I just know that it didn't want to close very well.

actually if the battery is dead, you can still open and shut the door. I removed the battery for winter storage. When closing the door I push on the top corner of the glass at the same time I close the door. Works perfectly everytime.

My experience so far, is that if you don't run the car every week and go more than 3 weeks your battery will be dead. Problem appears to be current draw from computers, and antitheft stuff that runs all the time. Solved problem by using a battery tender which keeps the battery fully charged. It doesen't take much of a voltage loss to prevent starting.

Thanks Renew, I couldn't find anything I had left on that would have run my battery down. So I'll bet the computer/security is the sorce. Is a battery tender the same thing as a battery charger?

The battery tender gives a "trickle charge" to the battery cycling on as the voltage drops in the battery and off when it reaches normal. We use them on fire trucks, reserve police units, etc. to make sure the vehicle is ready to go when needed. Cost? actually very cheap based on what they do.

Once you get the vehicle back up and running, you will need to "reprogram" the short-drop windows, just push and hold the window up switch for 10 seconds on each switch.

Oh, and the trickle charger or battery minder is a great idea also.

FYI, you only need to hold the switch in the up position for 2 seconds to reset it.
