From: London, ON. Canada
When I first saw the SGT I wasn't sold on it's looks. But the more I see of it and the more I read about it, the more I'm liking it.
I'm in Canada and the SGT is not available here, so getting one is a moot point for me.

I've been reading that you can get all the parts for the SGT for about $3000. Well you still need to get them installed and doing so is going to invalidate most of your warranty.
I agree the dealer markup is too much. But if you stuck to MSRP I think the SGT is well priced.

Will these be collectors items? Only time will tell and you'll still need about 15-20 years to truly make it a collectable. Well I'm 48 now and I really don't care about the value of my car when I'm 68.
I've never in my life owned a car that increased in value. The way of the auto world is -Depreciation!.
So I'm not too concerned about resale value.
But to me...owning a car with Carroll Shelby's name on it is worth something. And I would gladly pay extra for that. I wouldn't pay the crazy ADM that some folks are talking about. But MSRP seems fair to me.

So, I'm new here. I originally got excited about news of the Shelby GT, and my local dealer had the one I wanted (loaded, 5sp, white) on the way, for which he told me he would be asking 38K. I was cool with that (despite the price difference between that and a properly-outfitted GT Premium). But he later called and said, "my manager told me to tell you it's going to be $10,000 more, if you still are interested". Yeah, right.
So....
This is obviously a newbie question: Can I order a new Mustang wth the Handling Pack and Power Pack already installed, or do I have to have them done at the dealer? Any idea what each package adds to the price? Is it then under warranty?
If so, I'll be ordering a car this weekend (white GT Premium, Dark Charcoal leather, 5sp, silver stripes... see where I'm goin' with this?)
Thanks, and take it easy on a new guy, I appreciate any help.

Other than the Shelby GT, you cannot order a Mustang with the Ford Racing Power Pak and Handling Pak. BUT you can have the dealer install both of these paks before you take delivery. If you have them install by the dealer at the time of delivery, they will not void your new car warranty and the paks will be warrantied the same 3yrs/36,000 miles as the rest of your car. This was a recent change for the Ford Racing Paks.

Can I order a new Mustang wth the Handling Pack and Power Pack already installed, or do I have to have them done at the dealer? The warranty will cover parts and labor to replace defective components on Ford Dealer installed parts only.
Any idea what each package adds to the price? Yes

Thanks to you both.
I'm going to order a 2008 in the next day or so..
I want HID, but I haven't been told the cost yet, so that may or may not happen. And I need to do my homework to find which dealer to go to (I'm talking to one who seems to have a competent sales side, but if I need to buy my FR parts from them installed, I want to know their service dept. is decent). I'm on Long Island, in NY, and my car dealer experience has been...uh...less than stellar.
Any opinions as to whether my dealer's quote of "6-8 weeks delivery" for a 2008 is a pipe dream? I'd LIKE to get some summer weather in with the new ride!

Hey Jer, there is a dealer named Tower Ford on Long Island that just sold #22 at $1500 under MSRP. I think he has another or one coming....Shelby GT that is. You can find these for MSRP or less so if you really want one dont settle for something else. Not that a mustang GT is settling but you know what I mean. If interested let me know and I can PM you a few phone numbers of dealers I Know have them on the floor at MSRP.

Please do...
In the meantime, I'm going to drive over to Tower Ford this morning and take a look around.

Thanks!

A funny thing happened on my way to Tower Ford... <g>
A friend recommended a place called Abel Ford that was rumored to have a Shelby, so I stopped by. They had the EXACT car I want, every option PERFECT. So, I'm going in today to see if we can make a deal...

Jer

p.s. Currently, there are three car dealers on Long Island who have my name and number, and could sell me a car VERY easily, if they wanted to. Bet ya they don't.

Jer, good luck. Advise: Dont pay more than MSRP. There are alot of deals out there at or below sticker. It will be hard to not pay more once you see the car and want to leave with her!LOL Let us know how you make out. What options and color did you want anyway?

Done! Shelby #446 is sitting outside as I type this!

It's Performance White, with Dark Charcoal Interior, 5spd, Interior Upgrade w/ dark panel, Shaker 1000, wheel locks, active anti-theft, limited-slip, Sirius, and all at MSRP (can't believe I'm typing that - I'm happy to pay sticker? ).

Shawn at Able Ford in Rockville Centre, NY was the ONLY dealer that kept up the phone calls, stayed with me, and did his job... the other three guys made promises, never called back, simply BLEW it. I train salespeople for a living (in the musical instrument retail business), and it's been KILLING me to see these other guys just NOT making it happen! Shawn's the guy. He also paid attention to my special requests for prepping the car (leave the floormats in the trunk, I don't want to use them, and do NOT drill the front bumper for a license plate, because I bought one of the frames that mounts underneath and requires no drilling - see link below).

My first impressions? The handling, ride refinement, and sound system in my RX8 GT will be missed. But the sound and torque of this engine, the headroom (I'm 6' 3") and the overall VIBE of this car make it worth it. I can't remember the last time I got this much attention from passer-by. I've already been approached twice by strangers asking about it, and everyone on the road was just GAWKING at it. All this in just a 10 mile drive home with one stop. Shallow of me, but hey, it's fun.

Thanks to all of you for the advice that helped me make my decision. I really wanted this exact car, and if I had bought a white GT with add-ons, I wouldn't be happy. So I'm delighted to be a member of this forum... very cool.
