Just a few thoughts, I was not impressed by the hood scoop............pop rivits?
Attachment 25130

Then I saw the price, I only saw the 29K price..........and I started to kick myself.

Then I saw the upper left hand block

Attachment 25131

Yes that is over 18K for the shelby treatment. Just a quick check of the parts needed, you are not over 5K

I also included the Shelby sticker as well.

They added exactly $10K to the price. Shelby parts, labor, and GGT is $8390 not $18390.

I saw a Shelby GT yesterday and the sticker had whiteout on it and they had typed over the original sticker price and added $3500 to the Shelby's $8390.

Many dealers depend on ill informed buyers. Fortunately for them, there are plenty out there.

Saw one last week when buying my new Mustang GT liked it a lot but not worth the 10K over. If I had the money MSRP wouldn't be too bad IMO But pushing it.

Yea, 20K for one, is way too much. But back in 1966 the regular mustang msrp was 2500 and the GT 350 was 4500. That is about 80% increase, so that is just under double the sticker relatively.....so msrp for a GT now is 29000K so the adjusted GT 350 price should be 45K, so not quite a relative fair price.

C'mon gentlemen. It's just the name "Shelby".... FRPP parts catalog, what maybe 5-6k for everything installed....

Kind of sad the dealers are gouging loyal customers.....

In case you missed it, I did a cost analysis of the Shelby GT
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=63003

Total MSRP cost of FRPP, Shelby additions, and labor: Est. $4167.

The difference between the $7390 charge and the $4167 estimated sum of all the parts and labor is $3223.

So, is owning a Shelby GT worth the $3223 premium over the estimated sum of all the parts and labor (excludes the $1000 GGT)?

That's the best view of this debate I've seen so far.
And echoes my decision-making process exactly. It was worth it to me.

The dealer markup was unacceptable to me, just on principle. And THAT is giving the GT some bad press, IMHO.

But I got it a bit under MSRP, got what I wanted for my trade (RX8), and an agreeable loan scenario. And the dealer treated me well, and was attentive from start to finish. I don't know if the resale will be THAT much higher (who knows?), but I know I enjoyed buying a car that had a lot of mods that I would have done ALREADY done.

That's the way to do it. If I were in that scenario, I too would have plunked down the extra $9k, no problem. The issue was the dealer markup....

and as far as the $ 8300 in the sticker (1st post), it doesn't include the $2140 of the upfitter package, so in reality the upgrade (free of dealer markup) costs is more like $10k per that sticker.

Its also worth noting that the "upgrades" themselves are not the best your hard earned $$ can buy....$1100 for the performance pack would be better spent on a C&L CAI, plus the the Xcal2 with DOug's tunes, and FRPP Stingers, for roughly the same dough. Same goes for the shifter...and MGW is slightly more money, but it won't rattle like the Hurst. And all the other non performance, non suspension stuff (fluff) is just that...fluff, so in reality your looking at the performance pack, the handling pack, and the shifter in true upgrades, for $9k, which in reality is more like $18k....

2007 Mustang GT Premium coupe - $29,000
FRPP Parts- $7390
GG Tax- $1,000
Shelby name - Priceless

Some people feel this way. So $10k for something they feel is priceless, it seems actually like a good deal.

How is it that the gas guzzler tax applies here?

You're right, of course; otherwise the huge dealer-markup phenomenon wouldn't be in evidence....

I'm thinking it applies because of the premium fuel calibration that comes with the FRPP perf pack.

It must be, because I'm getting much better mileage than I did with my Mazda, and that didn't have the tax! Heh...

It has the GGT because the EPA tested a Shelby GT and based on the test results it got the $1000 tax. It's probably because all Shelby GTs have the 3:55 gears. http://forum.shelbyautos.com/index.p...wtopic=497&hl=

Saw a white one on Memorial Day. Nice car, but not $46K nice. Good thing is I got to hear the GTA mufflers in person and I am pretty sure they are just what I want on mine.

That was MY thought too, I felt $40K was a stretch I was willing to suck up, but dealer ADM put the car in the next class, and it wasn't worth $45K+...

As for the exhaust note of the Shelby GT, I am delighted with it; a great snarl when your foot says so, but extremely well-behaved when cruising. It's a beefy bellow at low RPM, midrange hammers through with lots of muffler resonance, then it just levels off completely on the highway. Nice.
