Got the call today!
To answer your earlier question about the dealer's cost on a Shelby GT. Rough rule of thumb is to take the sticker price (MSRP before Shelby Conversion), add $8390 for shelby conversion and Gas Guzzler Tax, and substract ~$3K. That will give you a ball park figure for dealer cost. So the cheapest SGT out there (Mustang deluxe with no options) will cost a dealer ~$33K and a fully loaded premium GT will cost him $37776. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...ack#post838044
I too came to 2 forks in the road on the Shelby GT. Back in December, when the prices were finalized, I decided it was too much money for what you get. Then again a few weeks ago, I test drove a SGT and started thinking about it again. Last few weeks I've seen them selling on ebay and on Shelbyautos.com for upper $30ks I seriously considered getting one. Even called a private sale for $37K.
I realized that the Shelby GT would maintain its value better than a modified GT, but when it came down to it, I wanted it my way. I will not own another black car (too lazy to keep it clean), and white with silver stripes just didn't excite me. I've thought about how much time I've spent thinking about my "ideal" mustang and the parts/mods I would do to get the look I wanted. So the extra $10K I save on getting a Mustang GT (rather than a SGT) will go towards doing it my way. Probably not a smart financial move, but I'm happy with my decision. And when I'm done moding, the end result will be a stang that is more appealing to me than the SGT.

I think your going to find that many (more than you and I know) feel the same way about this. I've set up my 05 GT just the way I want it and have wanted to buy both the SGT and GT 500. When it came down to it, even though I can afford it. The SGT, which appears to be in market saturation (good deals available new/used) is amostly an appearance package and I will not be gouged by a GT 500 ADM of 10-15 by car dealers looking for a one time cash cow.
I thought the GT/CS might also be the way to go, but I only have 14,000 miles on mine and it still smells new inside and gets me from point A to point B turning heads.
Maybe if the ADM's go away on the GT 500, I may look at an 08 late next year and I might just drive what I have.
Just my thoughts........

If the mods you have in mind are over $1K that is money which can be applied towards another car coupled with more equity on your present car it would place you on a position to get an upgraded model.
Shelby Signature plate good for cruise nights?
IMHO,
If you want a clone, Go for it.
If you want the real deal, Buy it. (The right price of course)
Think it through, and in the end if you are happy with what you have, then you have won your personal battle.
If your are not happy with what you have? Take what you have and make a clone of a Shelby Gt. Then you will be close to having what you wanted.

What makes the Shelby GT an original versus a "mere" modded FRPP parts catalog S197 GT a 'clone' is the Shelby signed dash plaque. Thats it. The FRPP catalog parts are $2500 retail. Shelby's techs in Las Vegas follow the same install steps that can be reasonably accomplished anywhere else. The only thing you get w/ this car is a 5 grand signature plate on the dash signed by a living legend, which only gets you extra milege on your cruise or drive in events.
on Shelby GT. This car was intended only to give the dealers a limited run cash cow. This has been admitted by the top brass at Fomoco. Again, watch the trailer on fordboldmoves.com. Read the full test review of the Shelby GT in June 2007 Car and Driver. Available on news stands and www.caranddriver.com
Guess what, You got a clone of what you were trying to copy
See, your looking at it from a 2 dementional level while others look at , at a 3 demensional level.
Thats ok though, Everybody has there own opinion on things, thats what makes us unique, and not a clone
Perfect!
Dont forget that number tag under the hood eithier
. With out those 2 items, you have a clone
. Thats all it will ever be. Thats what its all about
. I could put all the parts on a 66 mustang to make a GT350, would i have Gt350? Nope, I would have duplicate of something, a clone
. If i bought an A/C Cobra kit and put it together and made it exactly like a real A/C Cobra, would i have one, Nope, again a duplicate not a real one but, yep a clone
. I on the other hand have a car That has it's "Own" identity. It is the only 1 of maybe 6000 that will be offered. It's # 571. The Only one in the world with that "Tag". So with all your parts that you can put on and the stripes you can put on ect.......

Perfect! Glad to know that Ford Dealers can count on at least 6,000 customers like yourself ;-) Enjoy your car.
Eric.
