Got the call today!
Got the call today!
Well heres the deal. Several months ago I was in the market for a Shelby GT. After bugging my sales guy fro 2 months for prcing and going round and round and doing the work for them, as many of us have had to do, I finally got pricing and put one in for order. What they then told me was that they would be asking for $$ over MSRP after telling me months ago they wouldn't be doing that on this car. No big shock, its a car salesmen right??! Anyway, I kindly told them to use the car for a rectal screening and havent spoken to them since. Fast forward to today. I get a call this morning from the sales guy telling me my car will be in next week. I told him it isnt my car and I had already told him that before. He said they really wanted to to have it and they hadnt put it on Ebay or anything and wanted to give me first dibs still and owrk it out. He said "come on down and we will see what we can come up with. I know you dont want to pay over MSRP and we want to make what we can so just come on in and lets make it work". I told him to come up with a price and call me. I wasnt going to drive down there and waste my time. I guess these things arent selling as well as they had hoped everywhere. I dont mean that in a snide way, just that the dealers seemed to think they had a blank check like they did with the GT500's and maybe they are finding out different. Now I am torn as I really wanted the car but after my ordeal I said F it and moved on. I will be tradingn my 06 GT and taking a little hit I am sure. But I am seeing these things on the Shelby forums at MSRp or slightly less. One guy is desperately trying to sell his private sale for $37 with only 300 miles on it. He had an unforeseen family issue. Anyway, Ill let you guys know what they come back with for a price. I just though some of you in the market for one that were turned off by the ADM might be interested in hearing this.
I would bet they've tried to sell it and are now realizing the demand isn't there. I would at least see what they come up with. You can at least get the pleasure of getting their hopes up then walking out.
I love it! If you do it, keep in mind what they put you through
the 1st time you wanted to get the car - it'll make it easier to pull off. And if you do end up getting the car, make 'em sweat to truly earn your business. Then enjoy!!!
I have a feeling Shelby GTs may end up selling like GTOs...
Well, Im still waiting to hear back. I had a voice mail from the sales guy Onday night and when I called back Tuesday I found out he had the day off. So I called today and he is out sick. So if he doesnt come in tomorrow Im saying F it and giving up. I was all set to order an X pipe and GTA's this week so I have been holding off. I just want to decide and move on.

The difference would be no rebates.
Pontiac had no choice but to provide rebates due to the GTO production commitments in which Ford will likely not be as generous with special orders with the 54U option and Shelby Autos will definately not sacrifice their pride and lower their take.
The dealers will be flying solo with this one.
So much for spitting into the wind.

The people I have talked to that own these cars love them. At least one guy that owns both GT500 and Shelby GT likes his SGT better.
Do you guys know what X plan on one of thse would be? Is theer are percentage factor I could use to calculate it? I may have a line on one at X but definitely less than MSRP. Id rather get it from my local guy in the end just for logistics sakes and warranty and just not to deal with the BS but if he wont play ball then out of state it is. Any info would be appreciated
UPDATE!! I got a call back from the sales guy this morning. He had been out for 2 days. Anyway he tells me the price they have come up with is $43095. I said "so 2k over MSRP" and he said no that also includes the GGT.So I then explained that I can buy the exact car right now in stock in another state for $37k and change. I went on to explain that I was willing to pay MSRP but they went back on their word and now all he has done is take a loyal ford guy who understands they need to make some $$ and make me shop around on ALL my purchases and ***** out for the lower price. He did mention Ebay and I stopped him by telling him they were on Ebay and not selling. So I will not just decide if I want the car at all and if so get it from the other guy. If not Im going to start ordering mods this week.

So what's the big deal about driving a bit? Go where the best price is and if it is convenient for you to do the scheduled maintenance with the local dealer then do. If you are concerned about taking your car there and it being purposely damaged, don't. It would be foolish for any dealer employee to provoke a conflict not knowing the outcome. If an incident were to occur the dealer would have to pay for repairs, answer to Ford, deal with negative publicity from the state attorney's office...

... or even risk dealing with a postal employee who might just be on medical leave.

I take mine to the local dealer for the maintenance with no worries and just about everyone in the dealer knows I will not buy another car from them or send referrals.

Please, please think this one through.
I'm a proud owner of a 2005 Mustang Coupe that I've customized the heck out of over the past 2 years. From a pure financial perspective, customization is something you will never see a dime on in returns on trade in, however I love my car. Also, IMHO customization makes more sense than trading in a new car every few years. I'm in the camp of 'build the car you want from the car you got' instead of buying a new car and trading in the old. Thats my advice.
Its no secret these cars customize easy. Heck, they are put together like erector sets and come apart and go back together fairly simply. Your situation iis -- you own a 2006 Mustang GT and you'd like a 2007-8 Shelby GT in lieu of the current car. Quite frankly, the *ONLY* difference between a Mustang GT and a Shelby GT is a series of over the counter catalog parts from the FRPP catalog. The difference being, its drivable ready-to-go off the dealer lot.
That being said, its true the Shelby GT gives you the convienence of a Swanson Frozen Dinner but the the same taste & satisfaction of a cooked from scratch gourmet meal. Plus all the different models make it easy to get excited. BUT --> you are going to take a hit on trading in that 2006 GT. Sure, you've been given pricing of $37K -- $40K on the Shelby, but have you gotten any quotes on what the dealer is going to give you in trade? My guess is the minute you trade in your 2006 GT, you'll be in the hole 10 grand. Buy another 2007 mustang in its place( in your case a Shelby GT), and IT depreciates 3,000 just for driving it off the lot.
I LOVE your attitude on sales guys, especially the rectal screen part.
Keep in mind the trade-in is part of the sales BS they "
" you on. They are going to get you into the showroom, get you all excited about the new car, then give you BS $7800 trade-in on your '06 GT and find a way to convince you thats an awsome deal. I realize that nobody needs a Mustang from a practical perspective and these cars are a hobby & a passion. But, wouldn't it be cheaper to add the simple bolt-on's to what you've got for approx $$3-$5 grand instead of spending 13 grand just to drive a new car off a dealer lot? Either way, customization or trading-in and buying new every 2 years, its money out the window. IMHO you've got the makings of a great shelby GT car with what you've got in the garage.
You guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Shelby actually bought these cars outright from Ford. The dealers then buy the cars from Shelby at sticker. So there's very little (if any) money in it for the dealers. The main benefit they'll see is increased traffic in the showrooms and hopefully more "pedestrian" Mustang sales.

The dealers order the GTs from Ford at invoice plus the $7,390 of Shelby mods plus the $1,000 gas guzzler tax and are entitled the standard hold back concession of the GTs. It's hard to believe but dealers claim the Shelby mods bring no additional profits.
fordboldmoves.com has details
This post is correct. One of the many updates on fordboldmoves.com goes over the birth of the Shelby GT. The folks in Dearborn gave the blessing for this car & Shelby is basically the subcontractor to mod the cars. Shelby builds them with FRPP catalog. This car was done as a boost to dealer morale & profits. Watch the video & search these forums. I agree that dealer claims of no additional profits is unlikely, given the reasons for the genesis of this car.

IMHO,
If you want a clone, Go for it.
If you want the real deal, Buy it. (The right price of course)
Think it through, and in the end if you are happy with what you have, then you have won your personal battle.
If your are not happy with what you have? Take what you have and make a clone of a Shelby Gt. Then you will be close to having what you wanted.
Well after days of thinking about it I have decided to keep my 06 and just start modding it. I have wanted a Shelby since I was a little kid but I just cant justify the hit Id take with a trade. Not only that, I can just see me doing this and then they decide to come out with the GT350 in a year and that is the car I really want to Id be taking it in the shoot again on a trade. So thanks for the advise everyone
I got my car out of the garage from her iwnter slep and got it waxed and went for a ride yesterday and that did it for me. I really love my satin silver and know I would miss it. Now it is mod time !!

Seriously though I havent decided what I want to do. I am torn regardless of what he gives me for price.
