It's not that I am envious, or that I resent him. I wouldn't pick on the Benedict Arnorld if I could afford one but since I can't I say...
LETS BAN THE LUCKY TRAITOR!!!

I've been statistically watching the ebay sales of the GT500 and only one car has sold for $75M out of 41 listed and closed in the last three weeks ending 5/24/06.
Out of the 41 listed in that time frame, 16 closed as successful sales and 25 closed under reserve price. The average sale price was $57,135 of the 16 sold, and the average non-sale price was $55,960 of the 25 not sold. This is all with the assumption that the base price is $40M for the GT500 coupe. The current supply / demand price for the GT500 is averaging right now at $16,000 over MSRP. It's already down from the $20M statistically seen just a month ago.
The other thing I found interesting was none of the cars offered on ebay, that are already ordered by the dealers, actually sold successfully. Only dealers who offered a certificate to order your GT500 your way had successful sales on ebay. Looks like the consumer wants the choices if they have to pay high dollar for the GT500.

You would think these car dealers would watch, and do the easy research so their current price is in line at least with what's actually going on in the market. Instead they hear of what other's may or may not of sold a car for and go with it to their grave......messing up a whole lot of customer relationships as they go...........

Just rememeber that next time, when you or someone you know wants to buy a vehicle $1000 back of invoice, with a $5000 dollar rebate. You think car margins are high. Even a $40K Gt500 selling at $75K at close to a 100% markup. Think thats bad? Trying figureing out the margins on the clothes you buy, the TV you bought, the gas you buy, that shiny Ipod you have. Then call car dealers sleezy you ignorant @$$.

Well if I had the means to decide between the Z06 and the Shelby I would have to go with the Z06. Sometimes it's fun to drive on roads that aren't straight!

Gunk,

Good for you. I've got an '07 GT Vert on order and I still have my Bloomington Gold '82 Vette w/15,000 original miles. This will be my 2nd Mustang and is my 3rd Vette, so I too play on both sides of the fence.

"I'll be right in!!!" Man, that is classic. Your ex-sales guy will never forget that one that you pulled on him for the rest of his life!!!

The Z06 is and awesome car. If I had that kind of money I'd take one over a GT500 as well. I'd roll up to that dealer everyday for a week. Get out with a sign that says "This is a $75k car!"

Dude, MSRP includes the dealer markup....so your "close to 100%" should read "over 100%". And just because he is saying that car dealers are sleazy doesn't mean that other companies aren't. This looks like a post from a guy who just sold a GT500 for $25,000 over MSRP....or wants to.

If i had the chace to sell one for that price. Your **** right I would. Welcome to Capitalism. But it wouldn't matter anyway. Those kind of cars, most salesmen never sell. They are usually assigned to senior salesmen. And usually a flat is given on them anyways. Meaning no matter what you sell them for, you will make the same amount.

As cool as the new car will be..... a GT500 could have been found or purchased.....must have not really wanted it bad enough and wanted the other cause it's so much easier to get. (plus all those luxurious options they offer)

I fully understand your choice.

Personally, I don't even like the GT500 enough to consider paying more than $ 50K for it, but $ 75K is purely insane!

FORD should intervene before dealer prices get out of hand. Here's how simple math can make a point:

5000 GT500s sold x $ 75K ea. = $ 375 million
10000 GT500s sold x $ 50K ea. = $ 500 million

FORD gets its share, the dealers get theirs.

I'm sure the dealers will NEVER be able to sell the ENTIRE production of GT500s for $75K, whereas offering them for $50K will not only ensure selling them in much higher numbers, but also avoid piling them in their lots for the next 3-4 years.

While I would never, personally, pay more than MSRP for any new car - I see no reason to hammer on those who do. They get what they want (to be the first one on the block to get the latest car). The price of any product always gets reduced down to the simple economics of supply and demand. The demand for a new model is almost always at its peak before it's even released. Then supply starts to satisfy pent-up demand and prices begin to fall over time. It's a cycle that has held true for decades and is fascinating to watch.

I will probably never own a GT500 because it just doesn't make sense for me. But I love the car and I can't wait to see one in the showroom.

Great grab just make sure your roof doesn't fly off.

Smart Choice.

If your able to spend that much, and don't need to drive any one other than another adult in your car, that's the best deal in the world for a sports car of that caliber.Congradulations.
The second best deal in the world is the Mustang GT, with suspension change outs, better brakes, and spercharged with a great tune. Still less than $45,000.00 after sales tax and add ons. I'm very happy. Erik

The Only Thing That Has Me Bothered Is Your Buying A Car That Your 2nd Choise And Anyone Could Buy? Not To Saythe Corvette Is A Bad 2nd? Just Wait A Liitle While The Price Will Come Down. If The Chevy Dealers Had A Legend Like Shelby On A Corvette I Wonder How Much It Would Be????
