another turn down on the GT500

Well, my dealer finally called me! I was fourth on the list. I have been on the list for over a year. I had to put down a $500.00(refundable) deposit to be put on the list. Anyway, the dealer was grinning ear to ear through the phone at me, and without breaking a sweat, told me he was selling them for $75k! I told him I would come down this afternoon!

Upon arriving at the dealership, I went over to the sale’s manager’s desk. He smiled as soon as he saw me, as he knew my face and was anticipating a sale. I have bought several cars from them in the past. He quickly lost his smile when I told him I would like my deposit back! “Why”, he asked. I told him it was ridiculous to take advantage of customers that way! I just cannot understand it. With American car manufacturers in so much financial trouble….GM and Ford, as Chrysler is mostly, no longer American, how could they?!? I walked out. I expected to pay over MSRP, but that is just plain ludicrous.

The GT500 is an awesome car, but it, to me is not worth the $$$. I went to the other car manufacturer and asked about the Z06. They wanted 10k over MSRP on that! I went searching the internet and found them for MSRP and ordered one.

So fellas/ladies, I have switched teams, I won’t mention the other manufacturer’s name on this board out of respect for you guys. I will say that the car I ordered was cheaper than 75k, is rated at 505hp/470tq, over 800lbs lighter, no guzzler tax, naturally aspirated, and has a lot more “features” than the GT500.

Well I don't know that that was reason enough to 'switch teams' but hey man, its your money and your car - do what makes you happy cause you will be the one driving it.

As for that dealer...... hell I would have taken a wiz on the guy's desk..............

I completely understand your decision

Make sure that you let that other dealer know how they lost your business

I understand how you feel. Just be sure and drive by the Ford dealer and show him what you bought.

Yeah, Z06 has the best performance to price ratio because it can go 200mph,0-60 3.4 sec and has 505hp for only 65k,compared to 500hp gt500's selling for the same price which are alot slower(probably slower than base vette which goes 186mph and 0-60 in 4.2 sec.) and heavier(by 1000lbs ).So,you made the right choice.

That should say a lot. Either the dealer has a lot of allocations or they are looking for a pigeon.

Looking for a pigeon for sure, those guys were hedging their bets with customers. The fact that they called you tells me that the first 3 people also told them to shove it.

As far as the other "team", if anyone here would fault you for buying a Z06, they'd have to be nuts. That is a seriously fine piece of machinery, excellent choice. You will have no regrets. That car is dead sexy!
