Cleaned mine out last night, found a few leaves and a piece of thick plastic almost the same size as the filter, which seemed to be blocking it. Since pulling it, the car woke up and fuel economy went up almost instantly.

When I took my 2007 Mustang GT to the Ford dealer for a routine checkup, the mechanic found a huge mouse nest in the air box.

 

Years ago I left an Explorer I had parked at a trail head in the woods for a few days while backpacking. Came back and got ready to leave and it wouldn't crank. Would turn over and try to run, but would spit and sputter and die. Started looking around under the hood and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Decided to pull the lid off the air box. Looked normal until I pulled the air filter out. A squirrel, chipmunk or something had packed that thing completely full of leaves, twigs, nuts and other stuff making a nest.

 

I checked and my airbox was squeaky clean, but the paper filter's gotta go.
